Healthy dogs and cats are needed to donate blood during the second
annual blood donor drive for pets, scheduled for Sunday, April 1, 1990,
from 9 am to 1 pm at the MSCPA's Angel Memorial Hospital, 350 South
    Huntington Ave. in Boston.

Appointments will be scheduled in advance for volunteer dogs and cats,
whose blood will be used to help critically ill and injured pets at the
veterinary hospital. Donors in turn will receive free health exams, pet
    treats and other gifts.

Pet owners can volunteer their dog or cat if the animal meets certain
health and temperament requirements. Medical tests, including heartworm
for dogs and feline leukemia tests for cats, will be given free of
    charge.

To qualify, donors must be between the ages of six months and eight
years. Dogs must weigh at least 50 pounds and cats, eight pounds.

To pre-register your pet, call the hospital at (617) 522-6005 Monday
through Friday between 9 am and 3 pm.

Brian, my vet, has never heard of a program like Angel
Memorials (he is a new tufts employee). He told me what and how
they get blood for animal surgery....I won't go in to the yucky
details. however he suggested calling the main school number
and ask to be connected with the feline or canine area. hopefully
you'll be able to get an answer there, if not let me know and I'll
    relay the message to him.

    THANKS.

Before I lost Fire almost 2 years ago, he needed several transfusions.
I am really happy that the blood was available. My cats are very
healthy, and if my cats can possibly help another, then all the better.

Besides, maybe I can put the blood in reserve, like they do with
people. That way, if one of my cats ever needed it in the future, it
    might be less expensive.
