3338.0. "Help: Info on starting a cattery(business)" by CURIE::HAROUTIAN () Wed Feb 14 1990 11:35

Can anyone give me some pointers about where to look for info on
    starting a cattery?

I've checked out the notes in dir/title=cattery and they're about
constructing the actual space the kitties occupy.

I'm looking for information about the business end of it- licenses,
    etc.

I've been getting Cat Fancy for approx.two years now and haven't seen
any relevant articles; what else would anyone suggest?

    Thanks for your help,
    Lynn

What breed of cat have you decided to work with?

I'm sure you will receive some valuable information from the breeders
in this file. I am not one of them, but wanted to say welcome to
Feline. You have picked the right place to go for information!!

Well, first you need to decide on a cattery name. Then, write to
the associations that you wish to be affiliated with, such as CFA,
TICA, ACFA, CFF, etc, and ask for the proper forms to register a
cattery name. There will be a fee. CFA charges $30 to register
a cattery name. Once you register a cattery name, then you can add
that cattery name to the end of the registered name of your cat.

As far as what other licenses you will need, that will depend on
what type of cattery you want to have (boarding, or breeding), where
you live, and how you want to run your cattery. In some places
the requirements for a cattery license are the same as for a kennel
license, which are difficult to meet. I have chosen not to license
my cattery with the state. You may also want to get a business
license from you city. Check local laws for how to do that.
