3312.0. "Mature cat in the UK needs a home" by SUBURB::ODONNELLJ () Tue Feb 06 1990 17:56

    A friend of ours has a cat that will probably need placing in the
    near future.
    He is hoping to emigrate to New Zealand with his son, it is his
    home country. The cat belongs to his late wife, who died last year.
    The lady had, at one point, 8 cats. The others have been found homes,
    or drifted off.

    Zoe is a nutured male cat. He is about 14 years old, and is really
    looking for a quiet last home to end his days peacefully (although
    he may live a few years yet!). He is used to other cats, but would
    perhaps be better off on his own in view of his age. He usually
    sleeps throughout the night and a fair part of the day, otherwise he
    likes to go out. He isn't too fussy with his food, is affectionate and
    good with older children. He is black and white, and is very little
    trouble. He's a lovely cat and deserves a good home.

    Dave says he'd love to take all the cats with him, but it's impossible.

    Zoe lives in Reading, UK, and if anyone can help, please will they
    contact me at the above node?

3312.1If you hit the bottom line..........IOSG::PRICE_BUDGENWed Feb 07 1990 09:2614
If you really hit the bottom line and can't find a home for this cat, I'll take
care of him. I have got two cats already - one a rather boisterous overgrown
kitten and one a 5-year-old female - both cats are spayed. I have a sister who
is in various cat rescue and protection groups so even if the cat did not settle
well with us there are always alternative caring people who can be reached
through my sister. I think he would be better off on his own in perhaps a
relatively quiet household (I have a four-year-old daughter!) - but I believe in
venerable cats having a place in the sun .......... so if you can't get anyone
else to take him.......

Avril

ps I'm in DEC Park on 6914, account iosg::price_budgen, and live in Woodcote

    re.. -1

    It COULDN'T be worse!!!

    Thank you, Avril. I shall tell Dave that, if all else fails, you'll
    be prepared to take him.
    I'd do it myself, but we've found that our Oliver can be very jealous,
    and the LAST thing poor Zoe wants is to be constantly attacked by
    a neurotic kitten!

    It will certainly be a weight off Dave's mind, and I shall keep
    you posted.

3312.5even stray kitties shun DECpark!IOSG::PRICE_BUDGENThu Feb 08 1990 07:448
Re .4 have you noticed that *we* don't get strays around the building here at
DEC Park- is it the canteen food that puts them off or what? Pity, 'cos they
might find one or two good friends here.....Mind you, I saw a fox in the grounds
the other evening .....

All that apart, my offer still stands........let us know the outcome anyway.

3312.6I saw one - I saw one!!!!SUBURB::ODONNELLJFri Feb 09 1990 11:4317
    I am at Acre Road this week, on Evening shift. Of all the God-forsaken
    places that Digital owns, this has to be one of the worst, although
    it has improved a little since the Creche was started here.

    Last night, as I was going home, I saw a dark sillouette slinking
    past the Loading area. I went over (brave me!!) and called, and
    up came a lovely black cat with beautiful gold eyes. She (I think!)
    let me stroke her for a few moments and purred, then wandered off.
    She looked and felt so much like my little Kayleigh - I suppose
    Kayleigh would have eventually grown up like that.
    I don't know where this one lived, she came from the direction of
    the dump, and I didn't notice a collar. I shall keep a look out.

    By the way, Avril, I will keep you in touch about Zoe. I shall be
    seeing Dave at the weekend (he's in temporary housing while his
    flat is done up) and I'll explain to him.

3312.7Zoe has disappearedSUBURB::ODONNELLJWed Mar 14 1990 12:2518
    This is not the happiest of endings, I'm afraid, but both Zoe and
    the other, already placed cat, Tigger, have disappeared. They ran
    away at the beginning of last week when Dave tried to take them back
    to his flat (he'd been living in temporary accomodation while the
    council did work to the block where he lives) and, in spite of Dave's
    efforts to find them, they have not been seen since.
    We are hoping that they have found other homes - they may have sensed
    that they would be leaving Dave - two other cats of Dave's adopted
    a couple of old ladies in a nearby block of flats, so maybe these
    two will be lucky as well.

    We will be keeping a watch out for them, but I suppose we have to
    face the fact that they have gone for good.

    Thankyou Avril, for agreeing to take Zoe - I just wish I had better
    news to give you.
