3270.1 | electronic door | WILKIE::RUSSO | | Mon Jan 22 1990 15:53 | 5 |
| There are electronic cat doors that are sensitive to a collar that
your cat would wear. I don't know anymore about them than this.
Maybe someone here knows where you can get one.

| We have one of those! Great things they are too! We had problems with
other cats coming in so we bought a "STAYWELL ELECTRONIC CAT DOOR", but
I live in Reading in the UK! The door works really well. They have a
Biggish tag on their collars which releases a catch on the door. The door
can be locked to flap either way, both or neither. There MUST be a US
equivalent!
Lisa plus Percy and Pookie. ( Percy needs protection - he's a fighter!)
PS It cost 50 pounds.

| Not to mention raccoons using the cat doors, and then having a fine
time in the kitchen cabinets ("Hey, Merv, there's peanut butter in
this one.")

| An ex grifriends father had a cat flap which he had modified in
some way so that it would not open normally, you had to know just
where to get your claws into it and pull it open, his own cat soon
learnt the trick but other cats in the neighbourhood never seemed
to work it out!

3270.5 | Oh where or where have I seen this? | MICLUS::MTAG | | Tue Jan 23 1990 16:20 | 10 |
| Yes, I have seen these advertised in the US... just can't remember
where! The only animal magazine I get is from the MASS SPCA (called
ANIMALS?). Maybe I saw it in the back of there. I know I've seen it
advertised in print somewhere and not on TV. Maybe in the Carol Wright
coupon mailings? I'll check around and if I can find any info, I'll
add another reply. Maybe your vet knows or check out a good pet supply
center.

3270.6 | Auto Door for a Cat?? | FSEDU::MEGAN | | Tue Jan 23 1990 16:26 | 12 |
| Re .2
I'm in Sydney Australia, but the door I have is a Staywell standard
door.
I will check it out, but I think our pet shops are not as advanced
as the rest of the world, technology takes its time to get here!
Re .2 .3 .4 thanks for a quick response.

| re .5
I would really appreciate that, I'll still check here, but I am
not expecting to find much, our RSPCA does not have any magazines,
nor can I recall ever seeing a pet magazine here! I am impressed
that the rest of the world has such publications. Maybe I have just
found myself a new enterprise?

3270.8 | Extra info ... | XNOGOV::LISA | | Wed Jan 24 1990 03:47 | 9 |
| Re : .6
We had a standard STAYWELL door to start with - sort of a stretched
half circle of brown see through plastic in a white frame. The
electronic door needs a slightly bigger hole and the screws were
in a different place, but it fits OK!

3270.9 | magic mat? | ULTRA::GONDA | DECelite: Pursuit of Knowledge, Wisdom, and Happiness. | Wed Jan 24 1990 09:05 | 10 |
| Do you folks know of if a gadget exists that is like an electronic
mat which has a light and/or a buzzer that blinks and/or buzzes when
say some weight is placed on it (in this case a cat walks on to it)?
Then when the light blinks and/or the buzzer buzzes I can go to
the door and open it for the cat to come in. This way we can avoid
some of the problems involved with cat doors at an effort (going to
the door) which I don't mind doing.
I'd rather buy it if it is available (more reliable than making it :-).

| Re: .9
I'm sure these things exist. They are a standard offering
in home security systems, to detect someone walking in a door.
You might have to have it adjusted to be sensitive enough to detect
the weight of a cat.

3270.11 | R.C. Steele | STAFF::SECRETARY | | Thu Jan 25 1990 10:40 | 6 |
| They have the electronic cat doors (tag on collar type) in the
R.C. Steele catalog (a dog/cat supply catalog). The R.C. Steele
phone/address is in the canine notes CVG::CANINE.
R.C. Steele requires a minimum order of $50, but their prices are
truly unbeatable and I believe they ship internationally as well.
