3190.0. "Goodbye Lucky" by SA1794::DOWSEYK () Tue Jan 02 1990 12:42

(I tried to put this in 22-Dec-89 but Feline was not online.)

I knew when I opened the door and Lucky wasn't there waiting for me
that during the day the end had come. Lucky was the kind of loving cat that
was always there, just inside the door, giving those special meows, the
meows that seem to say "I love you, I'm glad you're home, when are you
goin ta feed me?".

I have known for several weeks now that Lucky would not be with
me for very long. He had FLV and FIP. For the last week he looked like he was
in remission. HE was playing, eating his normal diet, fighting me at the door
wanting to go out. I was sure (and so was the vet) that we would have his
last Christmas to enjoy each others company. I had been hoping that when the
end came that I would be able to notice that his condition was getting to the
point that I could take him to the vet and have him relieved of his burden in
the most kind and gentle way.

Lucky was one of those "throw away" cats, my daughter ran into "his
people" when they were taking their kittens to the SPCA to be put down. She
asked about taking a kitten, but the people said that the kittens were no good,
that their mother was no good because she kept having sick and dead kittens.
And they said that now that the mother was dead and they would not have to
bother with any more kittens. After a while my daughter did talk them out of
just that one kitten.

Even now that the dark side of nature has done its work I know
that in passing on Lucky has left behind the greatest gift a cat can
leave for his own kind. He has given his space in my home, a space that will
be filled another throw away cat (As soon as the vet says that it is safe for
another cat).

    Kirk,

I'm so sorry to hear about Lucky. My cats have FIP also and seem
to be in remission, but I guess this can come on suddenly. Bigfoot had
a cystic mass develop in two weeks with *no* outward signs except for a
little vomiting. And Fluffy, who passed away in July, showed no signs
of being sick until he collapsed. In both cases, they were playing,
eating and everything; I guess cats are really tough that way. Please
don't think there was something you should have seen; they don't always
    show that they're sick.

Rest assured that Lucky loved you and knew he was loved. You gave
him a wonderful life that he would not have had otherwise.

         My deepest sympathies.

    					- Andrea

So many sad notes today, looks like a lot of people didn't have
fun holidays where their pets are concerned. Very sorry to hear of
your loss, hopefully a new kitty love will come into your life soon
to brighten your life and put a smile on your face.

    Kirk...

Our condolences, too. Lucky certainly lived up to his name to be able
to have a person like you, even if for a short while.

re: throw-away-kitties If the "Gang of Purrs" is any indication, they
