Try and stay happy for the others - they appreciate your help!

3188.2 | I'm so sorry ... | AIADM::FEASE | Andrea Midtmoen Fease | Tue Jan 02 1990 08:58 | 12 |
| There's only so much you can do, can't save every kitty, but I
know how much it hurts. One of our turkeys is sick, but we can't get
near her, the others are protecting her by placing themselves between
her and us, and we can't get near her to crate her (they roam free on
our island). It hurts to see her suffering, but there's nothing we can
do ...
I think the idea of your pet cemetary is lovely.
My deepest condolences ...
- Andrea

| She knew you were there and trying to help her. She came to you in the
end. Don't give up. I just found a stray (I think) last night. I was
going to pick up my daughter at 10 PM and this cat came running over to
me crying. It was sooooo cooolld. I got some dry food for her and
tried to coax her into the closed-in porch area. She did come in but
panicked when I closed the door. I had to let her back out. I felt so
bad letting her back out but she was soooo scared. When I came back
from picking up my daughter the cat was gone but so was the food.
Keep up the good work. For every one you lose, there are many that you
have helped in some way.
Sandi, mom to THUNDER, LIGHTNING, STORM & DEJAVU too.

3188.4 | Aspirin? | AIMHI::SJOHNSON | | Tue Jan 02 1990 14:52 | 8 |
| Geez, it could be anything. Possibly Leukemia? I have also read in a
couple places that aspirin could be hazardous to cats for some reason.
I'll check w/ my Vet on Friday. I would go easy on the doses anyway
in the future.
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss. You tried your best and she knew
that.

3188.5 | My sympathies also | CGVAX2::LANDRY | | Wed Jan 03 1990 09:25 | 12 |
| Boy, what a week.
It is hard, especially seeing a kitten pass on. It *must* get very
frustrating taking care of strays - and all the emotion that goes with
it - the helplessness. You are a good person for taking these babies
under your wing and you should feel good in knowing that you are doing
the best you can - and more than most people would do.
Bless you and may you find strength.

3188.6 | It's had to loose someone | BRAT::JOSEPHSON | | Wed Jan 03 1990 12:35 | 16 |
| So very sorry about your loss. You are such a kind person to care
for the unwanted kitties and to lose them is such a hard thing to
go through.
I share your feelings and only wish everyone cared as much as the
wonderful people in Feline Notes do. It would certainly be a better
place for our furry friends to live.
Consoling someone who has lost someone close to them is so difficult.
It takes time and patience and understanding. I wish you well and
commend you for caring so much.
Sometimes it's so frustrating when you have no control over a situation
and the worst happens. You did your best...I hope that helps.

| Carol,
See if you can find an animal agency to work with you
like Animal Umbrella is doing for me. That way you can at
least get them for an exam, basic shots and neuter.
Smuck-Face has been added to the Silver Lining Memorial. I think
its particularly appropriate that his quarters gift will help fund
the rescue of feral cats like her.
Hang in there. Its a tough thing we're doing.

3188.8 | I'm unhappy, too...... | BOOVX2::MANDILE | | Wed Jan 03 1990 16:39 | 14 |
| I AM THE ONE WITH THE STRAY THAT HAS FELV. I GET THE PLEASURE
OF DOING THAT CREEPS DIRTY WORK FOR HIM. ABOUT ASPIRIN; I HAVE
HEARD IT CAN KILL CATS, ALSO. HUMAN MEDICATION SHOULD NOT BE
USED ON PETS UNLESS PRESCRIBED BY THE VET. I BROUGHT HOME 2
STARVING KITTENS THIS PAST MAY, AND NOW I HAVE THE SAME FEAR THAT
I MAY HAVE ALSO BROUGHT HOME FELV TO MY OTHER HOUSE CATS. VET
VISITS ARE SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND, BELIEVE ME!
KEEP YOUR CHIN UP, REMEBER THE ONES YOU HAVE HELPED.

3188.10 | sorry | SA1794::DOWSEYK | | Tue Jan 09 1990 16:31 | 6 |
| So sorry to hear of your loss. I think that the worst part
of losing a pet this time of year is having to wait 'till spring
to bury them.

3188.11 | Aspirin feedback... | AIMHI::SJOHNSON | | Wed Jan 10 1990 16:49 | 9 |
| I talked to my Vet on Friday. He recommended not using aspirin on cats
as it can be very harmful. If it must be given the doses should be
about 1/16 th (of 1 tablet) and given once a day every other day or
something like that. It can be as fatal as Tylenol w/ dogs. Dogs
should get buffered aspirin. He said to avoid aspirin unless
prescribed by your Vet.
FYI
