| Well, this may be a bit far to travel, but Erickson Grain & Feed in
Acton carries Everclean in two different size containers. I thing the
smaller container is about $9.50, and the large is about $17. They
also carry a competing brand (I don't recall the name offhand), but it
isn't any cheaper.
We (and our two "boys") love the stuff. Good luck!

Re:-1 Where in Acton? I work at the Mill so it might be fairly
convenient.
Yes, Puggs loves it too but not as much as me!! No more smell
at all. He's an indoor cat and you can't even tell I have a
cat!!

| How does it compare in price to Kittylitter? My 3 cats go through 3 medium
bags (8 pounds?) a week at about $1.50 a bag. They seem real happy with it so I
never thought about switching. There is a lot of dust when I change it but
opening the back door for a few mins. seems to solve that problem.

There is a phone number to call to find a store near you that carries
it. The number was posted in note 2691.0. Here it is 800-284-2287!
Good luck!!

3183.6 | directions to Erkikson's | FIVE5::BREDA | | Fri Dec 29 1989 12:41 | 12 |
| Hi,
Erikson's is on route 27. If you leave the mill going towards
Acton on Route 27 you will see it on your right just before
the bridge that goes over the railroad tracks. Erikson's
is tucked a little behind some other buildings, so you have
to be on the look-out. If you go over the bridge and see School
street on your right you have gone to far.
Regards,
Kathy

| re: .4 -- Cost of Everclean VS Normal litter
Well, the initial outlay is steep -- you have to fill the box about 2
inches deep with Everclean, which takes a little more than 1 "gallon"
of the litter (they sell it "by the pound", but the containers look
like what you might buy spring water in). Initial cost about $10.
After that, though, it ain't bad. You don't throw out the litter
every week (or half week, or whatever); you just scoop it every day
(or twice a day if you're fastidious, like us), and replace the amount
you scoop out. Our two cats have been going through about 1 gallon
(=$8.00) of the stuff in 2-3 weeks. Roughly price competitive, I'd say.
Pluses of Everclean: No odor. None. This stuff soaks up the urine
(which is the source of most "catbox" odor) into little hard balls that
you then scoop. It's made litterbox care a much less hateful chore.
Another plus -- the "boys" love the stuff.
Minuses of Everclean: The "boys" love the stuff :-) They tend to play
with it some, which tends to result in some spilling outside the box.
Because it's so fine-grained (like sand), they tend to track it out of
the box, too -- our solution was to put a 2'x4' carpet remnant under
the box -- end of problem. I've also heard that multi-cat households
have problems with the "balls" getting crushed underfoot before you can
scoop them out; however, we have not had this problem with our two
cats.

On route 117 in Stow, in the mall that contains the Country Fair
Star and Papa Ginos there is a pet store call the Pet Source.
Its right next to Rite Aid on the left.
The Pet Source carries Everclean. I believe its $18.00 for the large jug.
My kitty, Jazz, just got some for Christmas.. :-)
If you go there, say hi to my sister, Lisa, she is the
resident Dog and Cat groomer.

| Well, after saying how wonderful Everclean was, I now have to report
that I've switched the cats back to regular litter. Sweetie has had a
low-grade infrequent cough (once or twice a day) that started about
three weeks ago. At first I thought it was a hairball problem, but
extra Laxatone and a week of waiting produced no improvement. Just when
I had decided that a vet visit might be in order, I began to wonder
about the Everclean. Last Wednesday I switchged them back to regular
litter, and about a day and a half later, Sweetie's cough disappeared.
Since someone else reported that the new sand-like litter was a suspect in
her puss's eye problem, I'd say people should watch out for problems
with this litter.

| Karen...
Yes! It seems that the litter at least contributed to Stanley's recent
eye problems--if it didn't start them altogether. Poor little fellow
almost lost his right eye due to such severe corneal abrasion.
It's too bad, cuz I liked everclean and it is so easy to use. But the
price was just too high. (price=kitty health, price=mama's emotional
health, price=vet bills).
