3164.0. "Knotty cats!!!" by YUPPY::AMERR () Thu Dec 21 1989 08:53

    I have two colour-point persians (aka abbysinians) named "come here
    you little ******" and " for gods sake get out of the fridge", well
    they're actually called Fudge and Lucy.

    Recently their coats have started to seem dry and tend to knot very
    easily, their appx 9 months old, don't go outdoors, and their diet
    hasn't changed (not to say isn't varied!)

    Any thoughts on why this might be would be most welcome, could it
    be that they are reaching the cat equivalent of puberty???

    Thanks in anticipation,
    Russell Amer UK (Brush in each hand!)

    Hi Russell...

    I think you mean those colour-point persians are Himalayans, not
    abbys. But, anyway...I would say that based on their age, the cats
    are just starting to get their adult, thick winter coats. They DO
    knot alot....you have to comb them at least once or twice a day to
    keep them looking nice and feeling comfortable. Kitten coat is easy
    to take care of but gets more difficult as the cats get older. You
    may also want to add a little cod liver oil or mirra-coat to their
    food to help with the dryness for the winter time.
