3150.0. "More on note #2976" by STAR::PMURPHY () Mon Dec 18 1989 12:10

I guess the shot was what he needed. He must have had a "kitty" virus
cause he's back to his wonderful, lovable, playful self again.

I couldn't help laughing out loud the other night. D.P. decided he wanted
to play ball so he brought me one of his plastic ones with the bell inside,
dropped it at my feet and looked up at me. I picked it up, threw it into the
other room (he usually leaps in the air and catches it between his front paws),
and he went racing after it with Thai right with him. Midnight was on the back
of my recliner watching and he almost jumped down to join them. I got one of
D.P.'s other plastic balls and threw it up to Midnight to see what he'd do.
He swatted it with his "bootie" foot right back at me. We played this game
for a few minutes, then he jumped down to the seat of the chair and commenced
to kick at the ball with his hind feet. In the meantime, I was kept busy
between throwing a ball for D.P. so he could fetch it to me, and tossing the
other one to Midnight to play with.

This morning, Midnight had a wonderful time for himself. He was on one of
my kitchen chairs waiting for me to clean their dishes and get their breakfasts
ready. Every time one of the other cats walked by or under the chair he was
on, he'd reach down and tap them on the back or tail with his good front paw.
He's acting more like a happy, playful youngster now and it does my heart
good to see him this way too.

Another thing is when he uses a litterbox and starts banging the sides of
the box thinking he's covering "things", I go and take the hood off of the
box and ask him to leave it so I can take care of the matter for him. This
he does but not without making a few "cat" comments first. ;-)
I only do this so he won't injure the foot (he always seems to use his bad
foot too) or remove the bootie while doing so. It seems that D.P. has
decided to take on the job for me now and when he hears the banging going
on in the box by Midnight, D.P. runs out to reach in at him to stop. My
little helper! :-)

So I take it his wound is finally healing? Did the vet ever recommend
aloe? It's considered such a wonder skin healer in people, it makes
you wonder if it would work for kitties too.

Sorry for not responding earlier, Denise, but didn't have much time
during holidays to get into this file.

Midnight's wound is doing very well now with the baking soda
application right after I soak it each night. I then put on a clean
bootie sock, still padded with cotton balls. He's quite used to this
now and seems to know the routine when I get things set up for it.

He is bombing around the apt. with my 2 part-Siamese boys, D.P. Gremlin
and Velvet Thai, having a wonderful time with them. They play tag,
hide-n-seek, chase/fetch the ball (little plastic one that is
especially D.P.'s favorite toy but Midnight loves to bat it around the
floor too). He has great fun in the carpeted (inside and outside) "cat
barn" where he hides and pops out to surprise one of the others when
they come looking for him. He also likes the catnip mice they got for
Christmas. They all (5) love the "Kitty Tease" on the fishing pole.
    ;-)

He has also FINALLY joined the others at night and sleeps on the foot
of my bed (I think I'm going to have to get a Queen size or move to the
    couch in the livingroom). :-)

He is purring, "making bread" (kneading my robe), and becomes very
affectionate with hugs 'n' kisses when talked to and petted.

He's also discovered the fun he can have from a kitchen chair during
feeding times. Whenever another feline (and sometimes my toy poodle)
pass by or under chair he's on, he can't resist reaching down with a
paw (he's got 6 toes on all 4 feet, even the crippled one) and tapping
them. Sometimes one of them starts sparring, especially D.P., and
that's funny when D.P. does cause he is also double-pawed all 4 feet.
They look like their wearing boxing gloves.
