| The only think I know of that's remotely like it is the
Kitty Tease. That looks like a small fishing pole with no
reel and sells for around $5 at the show ($8 by mail). OUr
cats love it.

| It seems like you could probably buy your own fish pole, and replace
the line with the string type of fishing line (I think it's the stuff
used for ice fishing) and put a pom pom or ball at the end.
I bet you could probably make your own for less than $15.
cin...who thinks $25 for a cat toy is outragous!

| agree with .2 Someone is getting rich off this one! My favorite is a
2' long piece of 1/2" PVC pipe scrap with an 8' string tied to one end.
On the end of string is an old rag. You can whip or drag the rag about with
a flick of the wrist. Copy loved it and Vanessa is finally really
taking to it. This toy and a large paper bag can keep us going for an
hour or so. [Cat in bag: drag rag over surface of bag; cat attacks
shadow of rag on bag from inside; finally attacks rag as it falls over
front of bag. Alternate: drag rag under bag; cat attacks floor of bag
with much whirling around in bag (wish I had a vidio camera)]
Net cost: $0.00 - Chris

3129.4 | Andy Rooney | MICLUS::MTAG | | Tue Dec 12 1989 11:56 | 11 |
| Did anyone see Andy Rooney a couple of weeks ago on "60 Minutes"? He
did a piece on Christmas gifts that you "really" need. One of them was
a kitty toy - similar to that described in .0. One of the women I work
with thought this was such a great idea that she went to her basement,
found an old fishing rod, and rigged it up for her cats. She (and the
cats) had a ball!!
I would think it would be pretty inexpensive to make.

stella and stanley have a toy similar to this. it is a pole that sort
of "telescopes" out (it has three lengths). attached to the narrow end
is some round elastic cord, about 1.5 feet long. on the other end is
attached a mousie or bird (actually we have two of these toys.) the
mousie or bird bounces on the end of the elastic. i drag it around the
floor or bounce it and those two fiends have a ball!

| Update...
Well, my hubby decided to purchase the toy. It arrive the Saturday
before Christmas. I wrapped it and put it under the tree. First
thing Christmas morning, hubby opened up the gift for his "babies".
Mijo quickly figured out the fishing line and likes to run his
paws from the top of the pole to the end where the toy is. Selina
likes to run after the toy at the end. However, I found an interesting
thing happened. Because the toy is on the end of a fishing line,
we don't have to pick it up. Now Selina brings it back to us.
Now why doesn't she do that more often with her other toys? Go figure?
Needless to say, they both love the toy. Hubby thinks it was the
best Christmas gift ever. He now spends the majority of his free
time at home casting and reeling in the babies. What fun!!!!

3129.7 | A cheap and re-configurable toy | GEMVAX::KORGEN | | Tue Feb 13 1990 13:46 | 20 |
| Husband Fred and I play "tennis" with Ditto. A beam
goes across the center of our living room and we stuck a
nail in it and tied fishing line on it. At the bottom
of the line we tie the toy-of-the-month, usually a ball
with a jingle-bell in it. The length of the line is
such that no matter how hard any of us hits the ball, it
doesn't strike anything (lamps for example). It
just swings on its pendulum in any direction. Two or
three of us can bat the ball (or mouse, or whatever) back
and forth for the proverbial "hours of fun". Ditto and I
have actually played what could pass for tennis, striking
the ball back and forth between us. He ups the odds by taking
various positions, such as laying directly under the ball on
his back, or positioning himself on the couch arm where he
can Juuuuust barely bat the ball. Ditto's favorite is
3-way catch... I wonder if you folks with more than one
cat could get two cats to play it with you?
