3121.0. "Cat left to be put to sleep..." by AIMHI::SJOHNSON () Fri Dec 08 1989 09:53

A 1 year old male tabby and his sister were brought into Dr Kaas's
office the other day for a 1 year check up. Dr Kaas informed the couple
that the male had an inner ear infection and that it should be treated.
The couple told him to just put him to sleep- that they didn't want to
    be bothered with him.

Apparently the cat is a beautiful black/gray tabby that is extremely
lovable and Dr Kaas could not put him down. He does however need to
find him a home as he can not keep him either. The poor little boy
must be so confused and missing his sister at the same time. How sad
and cruel! People can be so evil sometimes!

If anyone is interested- please call Ferry Rd Animal Hospital in Nashua
    at 603-882-0087.

I would have taken him had I not just adopted another cat!

Gee, I wish it was so easy to euthanize humans. There's lots of
people out there I'd like to see put down!!

One day, when we have a big house, I have already warned Dana that
he better start putting his carpentry skills to work! We're gonna
be helping out lots of homeless kitties and I dream of having a
shelter of some sort in the backyard.

Wish I could take in this homeless boy. He sounds beautiful.

Thanks for entering the note and caring.

3121.32 yr old Mittens...AIMHI::SJOHNSONFri Dec 08 1989 10:329
I did end up taking that 2 year old calico on system. She is in New
Ipswich NH. She is a doll - lovable & friendly. I pick her up
tomorrow. I felt that a kitten would be a lot easier to place and
after the experience at your house the other night I called them to
tell them that I would take her. I can't wait!

    Sorry again.
That price seemed real high - I agree! (for Casper)

Grrr! I abhore people like that!! I would have taken
their other kitty away from them!! I suppose they don't
want to be "bothered" by feeding them? or "bothered" by
    	playing and cuddling with them?

I have a few names for people who do things like this but
    	they aren't printable here!!

re: Roberta....the more I read this file the more I want
to do the same thing!! Cary and I already know we want
a house with a decent plot of land so we can have many
pets of our own....but I'd like to help out those that
    	   don't have homes too....

JJ, it would be terrific to have the accommodations for many pets.
The breeder I got Kelsey and Kirby from had a house built behind
her own, heated and air conditioned for the stray cats in the
neighborhood! It is in a fenced in area of the backyard. It would
be nice to have the bucks someday for this sort of set-up. The
cats living there were neighborhood cats that people never bothered
to spay/neuter so Linda took matters into her own hands and had
the house built. It is equipped with several scratching posts,
toys and the like and is very impressive! I would love a set-up
    like that someday.

Good thing for people like us!!

3121.6Too many homeless!!TUNER::JENKINSFri Dec 08 1989 14:4718
    Roberta,

I understand your feelings and I too wish I could do something to
take this unfortunate boy. I also wish I could help Nancy out with
those strays left at Weymouth Commons. Since I used to live in
Weymouth I know that they do have animal control officers and will
probably get called once the building owners get fed up with all
    the stray cats.

I have an empty barn and would not mind taking an outside only cat
that desparately needs a home. Since I have three birmans now I
do not want to risk their health bringing in a cat of unknown origin
    into the house.

Nancy, if I could adopt one of these homeless cats you know about
from Weymouth Commons let me know when I see you Saturday night!!

Maybe you could convince the vet to make the kittie the Hospital
Mascot. My vet has had similar cases and has taken in 5 resident
mascots, George lost a leg in an accident and was left there, and
the stories go on, but Scott got attached and so far has 5 running
    around.

Sure hope it works out. Don't know if it's the season but this
has been a real depressing day - can't wait to go home to my babies
    and love them to death.

3121.8Boy, am I gonna have to be careful! TPMARY::TAMIRACMS design while-u-waitTue Dec 12 1989 12:5415
I'm gonna have to check twice to make sure I only go home with ONE kitty on
Thursday. I have this reputation at Ferry Road Animal Hospital of being a
soft touch (I wonder how what happened....funny that I named my new kitten
after Dr. Kaas' partner, Dr. Robin Porter)...

When Julie was a 5 week old baby, she broke her paw jumping off the window
sill. The emergency vet who was treating her asked if I intended on treating
her, as if there was any choice to me!! But she went on to explain that some
folks just can't afford the bills associated with sick or injured pets, and
since treating Julie was gonna run about $300 she wanted to be sure I was
willing to do it.

I'd go hungry and naked before I'd resort to that!!
