| Hey, have you guys noticed how quiet it is out there??? Last time
the Americans all disappeared for a long weekend I seem to remeber
the rest of us got up to mischief; was it around the 4th of July?
Remember, Phil? Something to do with accusing that lot of dancing
naked around flagpoles, or something...
We've just had friends from Reading (UK) staying, and have sent
them back to the land of snow and ice. They are underprivileged,
i.e. have no cats, so Paula adored having Kimi (Abyssinian) and
Sura (Burmese) to pay homage to. SUra fell in love with them both,
Kimi was more reserved.
Shayne (New Zealand - we don't have Thanksgiving either, but we're
across two lots of water!)

| I'm getting withdrawal symptoms out here - nothing to report back to
the cats in the evenings ....... what mischief can we get up to this
time?
Avril (with Jenny and Pip at home waiting in hope)

| So, if they're not dancing naked around a flag ... it must be a xmas tree!
The only thing that I have to report is that Percy (ginger and very
cuddly) has a bald patch on his head. I think it MIGHT have something to
do with the dead thrush that I found on the lounge carpet! It does
look quite funny. I've started calling him baldy but he doesn't like it
at all!!! :-)
Lisa (Percy alias Gary and Pookie)
PS Alias Gary .... Gary Baldy of course :-)

3078.11 | Have we a Garfield here? | IOSG::PRICE_BUDGEN | | Fri Nov 24 1989 08:02 | 14 |
| My Jenny is a ginger cat too - apparently female gingers are not as
uncommon as I thought. Question - how heavy is Percy? Jenny is cuddly
too but putting on weight like mad - I'm sure she is going to another
source of food when I amd out and indulging in an extra meal!
Feliners from the States seem to quote quite large cats.
Are cats in the States generally bigger than ones in
the UK? (i.e. do they have generally bigger frames
than here?). It might be an interesting topic for a base note?
I hope Percy's fur grows back soon.
Avril (Jenny alias Garfield and Pip who is a black, streamlined
6-month-old)

| Well, I guess the Americans are busy sacrificing turkeys.
Some of the noters have huge cats, others have little scraps, so
we probably all have the same sort of size ranges. Our two boys
are about 4.5 kgs (Kimi - a good size for a neutered Abyssinian)
and 4 kgs (Sura - Burmese), but many of the moggies around here
are MUCH bigger than them.

3078.13 | Fat cat ... | XNOGOV::LISA | | Fri Nov 24 1989 17:37 | 17 |
| Good to hear that someone is out THERE!
Percy is about 9lb's I think - how do you weigh them accurately?. Our
scales aren't that accurate. I get on, then I pick up Percy/Pookie.
The needle wobbles about all over the place!!
I also thought ginger females were rare when I got Pookie, but I have
heard since that this is just an old wives tail. I do regret having
Pookie spayed before she had a litter, but .... Percy and Pookie are
brother and sister, as were their parents, so it probably wasn't
such a bad idea after all!!!
IDEA - (moving right along from the previous para!) - perhaps us
UK feline noters could get together sometime in the new year?!?!?
How about it?
Lisa. ( Percy and Pookie - THE ginger pair )

3078.14 | | NZOV01::PARKINSON | Reunite Gondwannaland! | Fri Nov 24 1989 22:12 | 15 |
| Actually ginger females are more rare than ginger males, just not
SUPER rare. The red (aka ginger!) gene is sex-linked, so a female
has to inherit it from both parents before you get a red female.
If the female only gets one red gene it's a tortoiseshell of some
sort. But a male only needs one red gene.
That's a little over-simplified, but it's basically correct, I think.
If your cats' parents were siblings, that must have increased the
odds of Pookie getting two red genes pretty heavily!
I can't come to your party! But we may be in Reading again next
year (we were last June/July) - maybe I could meet some Reading
pussycats then???
Shayne (New Zealand - it's 21 degrees today, hot and sunny)

| re. note 13 Yes, Let's meet up after the new year - perhaps a new base
note will alert some people we haven't heard from yet.
Let us know if you come over at any time Shayne - I'm sure the cats and
their pet humans will give you a big welcome! Thanks for the
"ginger"information and for keeping the ball rolling in barren times.
Ah well, they're all back stuffed full of turkey and the lines are red
hot again..... onward to note 3079.......
Avril and Jenny (who's glad to know she's not too common) and Pip (who
can't see what all the fuss is about)

| re: Dancing naked around the flag pole. Well we certainly weren't
dancing naked around anything outside for Thanksgiving!!! It SNOWED!!
And Braintree got more than you folks in the middle part of Mass.
Of course our snowblower doesn't start unless its about 40 degrees
Fahrenheit - Big help that is!
Its nice to know we're missed.
