3019.0. "Punk Kitty" by MEMIT::MISSELHORN () Tue Nov 07 1989 14:16

    Last night Bruce and his daughter, Laurel, took our Missy and
    Brittany to the vets for their annual shots.

    Missy, the mellow cat, didn't move a muscle or make a sound
    while being examined or vaccinated.

    Brittany, the brat, watched from the window sill. When Missy was
    finished, Bruce brought Brittany down and put her on the table.
    Before the vet could do a thing, Brittany's tail fluffed out and
    all the hair down the center of her back stood on end. BUT, the
    way it stood on end was in punk-like fashion /\. Bruce said that
    even the vet was laughing hysterically--she'd never seen that
    happen before.

    I am so bummed that I missed it. Leave it to Brittany!

    Is it really so unusual? Or, has anyone else see any of their
    babies do that?

    Barbara (Melody, Missy and Brittany, the brat)

	 Hannah 'spikes' like that. Looks kind of like the spines on a
     dinosaur. It looked really funny when a 3lb. kitten was giving a
     14lb. monster these evil eyes.

    They will do this when they are really scared. My guys have been
    doing this sometimes when the puppy gets too close. The puppy weighs
    about 35 pounds at just under 13 weeks, so I guess they have a reason
    to be afraid. It sure is funny though.

3019.3Mostly During a "Go-Nuts"SANFAN::FOSSATJUWed Nov 08 1989 17:0314
    Two of mine do this, Pippin and Stitch. It mostly happens to Stitch
    when something scares him, but it also happens when he runs arond
    the house having a "go-nuts". All of a sudden the hair spikes in
    a neat little line down the center of his back and then his tail
    blows up.

    Pippin reacts this way only when she gets freaked out .. Then Gino
    the mellow baby only blows up when Stitch and he come face to face
    after a good chase and Stitch "punks out" in the process.

    It's a scream!!

    My two did that the first week we had them home. They had caught
    their somewhat dim reflections in the glass door on our fireplace.
    They must do it to make themselves look bigger and scarier to the
    enemy! Quite a feat since they were little 8-week old pipsqueaks
    at the time. It was sooooo funny!
