My cat has the same black spots on her gums. I asked the vet, and
he said this is very common for orange cats, and they are simply
"freckles". Nothing to worry about.
In fact, Ginger's nose is just starting to get a few tiny spots as
well as her gums.

My Sammy is an orange cat and has had black "freckles" on his
mouth (and 1 on his nose) ever since. He's fine otherwise,
except he is incredibly lazy (sleeps 18 hrs a day!).
Is that typical of orange cats, I wonder? :^)

Mine mumma who is an orange tiger has a *big* brown freckle on her
lip to the inside of her mouth. When I first found her I would
look, then look twice thinking wait a minute is something wrong
but its just a birthmark or something..

| Ruffles, the wonder cat, is orange and white. He, too, has
the black marks in his mounth, on his lips, and gums. He's a very
large and healthy cat, but LAZY. He'll sleep for hours and hours,
get up and move somewhere, then sleep there for hours and hours.
Maybe it is a trend with older orange cats, as per -.2 mentioned.

| Oliver is black and white - he's not a pedigree - and he has a large
black mark over the left side of his gums. He also has a similar
black spot on the tip of his nose. Rather sweet, I thought.

| Argus J. Pussycat, Esq., who prefers to think of himself as "golden"
rather than orange, also has a black spot on his gums. I asked the vet
about it and the answer was "Have you ever known a red-head without
freckles"?
Alexandra the Greatest, also has them, but she is a blue/gray and white
tuxedo cat.

| my Alex has a big black freckle on his Tongue! It is really cute
when he yawns. He also has them on his gums. He is Black Coon
cat with stripes...
my Brad has one black spot right on his nose! He is Blonde...Yes

| My parents' dog, Mindy, has spots on her tongue. She's a
shepherd/husky mix.
