2984.1 | Cat Care Service??? | MICLUS::MTAG | | Tue Oct 24 1989 12:37 | 18 |
| Hi. I'm not sure if this is a good suggestion or not, but you might
want to try calling a cat care service. I used Kajan Cat Care when I
went away and they were great. I also think, but am not 100% sure,
that they may be able to help you out for the two weeks by being
"foster parents."
You can call them at 508-898-2922 or 508-839-9169. They're in
Westboro, MA. I've heard they take cats in (they're softies like most
of us) that need homes. Maybe they'll take yours for 2 weeks?
Boarding is another alternative, but expensive. My vet charges $7.00 a
day per cat.
Good luck,
Mary
PS - tell them Barney, Gonezo, and Benjamin recommended them to you!

Thanks so much.. At least I can give it a try!!
I just called, but got the machine and left a message...
The boarding $$ would stink, I know.. but it wouldn't be so bad,
if I knew they were okay i.e., not suffering any psychological traumas
or anything.. I know absolutely zip about boarding.. I know my
vets does it too, and while I have absolute confidence in my vet
(McGees, in Marlboro) I don't know if they would be the best
boarders..I mean, would they be next to sick cats? Would they be
in little tiny cages 24 hours a day? Would dogs be in the same
room? 8*( x 100000...
Well, we'll see what happens when these people call back, and thanks
again for the suggestion!!!

Most vets have a separate room or area for cat and dog
boarders. These are NOT the same areas the sick animals
are in (ie `the hospital'). Call your vet and ask what
their setup is...

| There must be a feliner out there who would take the cats for
two weeks. What kind of physical condition are they in? Ages?
FLV tested or immunized?
I'm afraid our inn is full at the moment - we have to isolate
Jesse during the day and I don't have another room - but there
must be someone who can take them for such a short time.

Well I'd hate to be a big pain and impose..... !!
Kajan Kat Kare - I guess what they do is come to your home and take
care of your cats.. so instead of boarding them when you go on
vacation they will come to your house.. very nice setup I think..
She referred me to a boarder she said is excellent with humungeous
cages and she takes each one out individually for playtime and things..
I think what I'll do today is call my girlfriend and tell her my
situation!! Maybe we can work something out with the cats... I'm
still trying...
for the record, anyway.. mother and daughter. mummy kitty is four
or five years old (stray) fixed, shots, flv tested, immunized, the
works. a little overweight! shorthair, gets along well with other
cats.. baby kitty is a year and one month old. same as above,
fixed, shots, etc. short short hair, very healthy looking.. I don't
know how well she'd get along with newcomers.. but she's not the
antagonizer.. (one mummy came home from the vets and baby hissed
at her, then ran away. creeped up, hissed at her, ran in the other
room...) They have claws. They are indoor only at the moment.
BUT I would hate to impose on someone who doesn't owe me any favors!

| Oh well, I new Kajan came to homes but was hoping, since this is for a
short period of time, they'd consider taking your cats in.
I'd love to be a foster mom but my husband would kill me. He's
allergic to the 3 we currently have and would divorce me on the spot if
I brought in another. Besides, mine are currently at the vet boarding
because we're having new floors put in our house and even we can't be
around!
Keep us posted on how things turn out.

| If you end up boarding, don't board at your vet's. Besides the
germs floating around, they usually don't have cages any bigger
than for the sick cats. I used to go to Tee Emm's Kennel (Ted Meisner)
in Methuen until my neighbor moved in about 4 yrs ago. At that
time he was charging $6/da/cat, BUT they have cages that are 3 x
6 with trees in them. You can leave blankets etc. and special food
if necessary. They will medicate the cat for an extra sum (was
$0.50/da. They have 24 hr on cal vet and someone's always around.
They don't take them out to play, but they do visit and feed 2x/da.
My cats never smelled bad nor were they traumatized when I brought
them back home. You can put them together or keep them separate;
the cost is the same. A room with a window is $7/da. It's awfully
expensive, but I felt that they were safe. They also require that
you leave your own doctor's number, etc. They are very professional.
There is a cats only kennel in Billerica, Tres Cher. I've never
used them, but my girlfriend was pleased with them. At that time
they charged quite a bit less than TMs.
I wish I could help, but don't have a setup. Best wishes!

Well, the crisis is over. Talked one of my friends into letting
me stay with the cats. Now I'm just praying praying praying the
two will get along with hers! And please don't scratch the couch..
Course I let them do anything (scratch the couch, scratch the woodwork,
have a ball!) but it looks as though I'll have to use a spray bottle
but they'll survive.. they'll just be a little confused is all..
Thanks you all so much for your suggestions, etc. If I ever do
have to board my cats, I'll keep these other places in mind!
F. who is finally taking a deep breath and relaxing!! 8*)
