2964.0. "PURRRR IS YOU'RE PERSIAN!" by STEREO::DENELL (Elinda Denell - 264-4396) Thu Oct 19 1989 14:06

    I have a friend that is getting 2 persian kittens this week. She
    is in need of help in finding "persian names" for her kittens: one
    male and one female. Can anyone give us some suggestions.

    "Rasselas" was the name of a persian prince, if I recall correctly.

    (It was used as the name of a persian deerhound in a group of espionage
    stories by Michael Gilbert)

    I think she'll really like that name -- thanks. How do you pronounce
    it correctly (exactly like it is spelled?).

    I don't know if these names are Persian or not, but they are Arabic:

    Jamil (pronounced Ja-meal) & Wasim (pronounced Wa-seem)

    Both, I believe, mean handsome.

    Sorry I haven't replied in so long a time, Elinda...I can only rarely
    get thru to this file for some reason.

    I've only seen the name in print, I've never heard it pronounced, but
    if it follows the pronunciation of other words, then it should come out
    "rah-SELL-ahs"  [any Farsi speakers around?]
