2950.1 | Scratch Tests? | CRUISE::NDC | Nancy Diettrich-Cunniff-I wanted it all | Tue Oct 17 1989 12:18 | 12 |
| Are you sure its the cat? Have scratch tests done before you
give up the cat. It would be a shame to give up such a beauty
only to find out that its not the cat - or that the allergies
are controllable with medication.
My husband and I are both allergic to cats. (My alergy is
very mild). Jack gets along fine by taking his Seldane and
Slo-bid every day. It also seems that after years of living
with them he's become somewhat immune to the allergy. The
allergy did become somewhat worse recently with the addition
of two more cats - bringing the count up to SIX.

| Just so everyone gets the right idea...a Red Persian is an Orange
colored cat, the color of the famous "Morris" only with much more hair
and slightly lighter orange stripes.
cin...who has a "thing" for Red cats, persian or exotic!

Only just Exotic or red classic boys! There is something about
red or red/brown!!

I'm currently on the Matthew Thornton / Hitchock Clinic health plan.
Dr. Vore performed scratch tests and the CAT, DOG, HOUSE DUST (minor)
were positive 1 yr ago. Back then I was on the Ventolin inhaler
for 1 - 2 puffs a day. Now I'm on proventil tabs 2/day and the
inhaler 2 puffs/weekday and MAXIMUM(2 puffs/4hrs) on weekends.
I've heard of SELDANE and SLO-BID before, thanks for the suggestions.
I'll see what my doctor has to say on that.
However he said that he has pleanty of medication that he can put
me on but no matter what he puts me on I won't loose my allergic
reaction to the cat. Unfortunately the reaction is ASTHMA which
is not something I can just wipe my nose about. He also said that
I could take shots but the shots are only good for visits of 1-2hrs
in length not constant exposure.
If I don't get rid of the cat or divorce my wife my allergy will
just get worse and worse. Then I'll start being allergic to other
things as well.

| Sounds like you're one of those unfortunate folks who are just
too allergic to tolerate the cat, even with medication. Well,,
I'll keep my ears open and see if I can't send someone your
way. Have you put up some ads in your local grocery stores?
I would suggest that you ask some nominal price, say $25 or $30
for the cat, rather than offering it free. That way you'll get
serious folks who have thought about it and are ready to take
on the work and responsibility associated with owning a persian.
Good luck.

| Also, talk to your vet about a new home. S/he would be a good
judge of someone who would be appropriate.

| I second Nancy's suggestion of an asking price for your cat. You
would apt to attract more serious adopters rather than perhaps
someone who just wants a free purebred. nless of course you get
a solid referral to a home of serious pet owners.
just my two cents :-))

be little or no cost - pretty kitties looking for homes.
Send me mail or give me a buzz.

I have a Silver Tabby Female...Longhaired Exotic (but looks EXACTLY
like a persian) that may be available sometime before Christmas. This
is a kitten, she's 5 weeks old now. I'm still trying to decide if I
should keep her or not!!! If I decide not to keep her, she will be
available for sale.

2950.20 | The best one yet | PENPAL::TRACHMAN | ExoticSH=Persian in Underwear | Tue Oct 31 1989 11:48 | 25 |
| No, I know she will be fine, but I just want her to have everything.
Last night she did probably the funniest thing she has ever done yet.
Shel was doing her usual 'hairdresser' routine, making a serious
mess of my hair, purring so loud in my ear I couldn't fall asleep,
when for some silly reason I picked my head up , maybe to turn over,
(how dare I move and disturb her) well, as I picked my head up
(I'm laughing so hard I can't type) her front feet were still on
my head and I raised her up with my head so that she was standing
upright on her back legs with her front paws holding on to a bunch
of my hair. She had decided that she just wasn't quite finshed
with my do, and no matter which way I was going to turn, she
would just hang on and wait for me to settle down so she could
finish!
It was dark and I couldn't see her, but I could imaging her standing
up on her stumpy back legs with a large bunch of hair between her
front paws - the higher I lifted my head, she still hung on. It
was the middle of the night and I just couldn't stop laughing!
Good thing all the windows were closed.
Cindy, this cat is really soft as a grape!

Sasha does this to me all the time....the only thing I can think

| >>> Speaking of mussing hair....
Hannah, my flame lynx point, "grooms" my hair every night. I
always figured she was showing some "famliness" by grooming me
and the only place she can find enough fur to groom is on my
head....she grooms me for a while and then settles in for
the nightly nap - curled around the top of my head on the
pillow.
Of course, that only lasts until Sam comes in and starts a
game of tag.....

| Bailey has been known to groom my hair for me to which is quite
interesting with the perm that I have and the curls going all over.
The one thing she does do as a ritual almost every night that I
am setting on the sofa watching tv, is to settle herself down on
top of the arm I have resting on the sofa arm then proceed to groom
the length of my lower arm so that every arm hair is neatly in place.

| Jan,
That's interesting. Shamus will frequently lick my arms in the morning
after I've applied moisturizer and I had read somewhere (here, I think)
that many moisturizers have some similarity to kitty hormones, so I
assumed that was behind the behavior. But he gets on these missions
where he will also lick my legs once I get out of the shower and give
me little love bites along the way. And sometimes he lies in wait for
me to do my back exercises and licks or bites any part of me he can
get his mouth near. I never thought it might be that he was grooming
me - I always thought he was perverted! Sort of as if he were the
reincarnation of some of my worst junior high school dates!

| Pam,
I don't even have to have moisturizer on for Bailey, she'll groom
me any way.
Amelia is the one who licks my legs after the shower. She also
will rub my legs while I'm sitting in the err..umm library. She
rubs my legs back and forth and gives me little love bites. She
always does it very gently but the sharp teeth even touching my
legs still makes me jump.
I think that's a riot...what you said about reminding you of former
(jr. high school) dates.

| This seems to be a habit with cats I think it is comunal grooming.Or
they are getting their own back and trying to straigten my curls out.I
am sure they think they are knots.I did have one Chinchilla longhair
who as soon as I closed my eyes used to lift the eye lids to see if I
was still there. In desperation if she couldn't lift them she would nip
the end of my nose.As a piece of valuable research I would like to
state "If the the end of your nose is nipped however deep the sleep
they eyelids open automatically." Now think of the millions I have
saved the country in that research.
