| Thanks for the advise Pam. Looks like I have to give pills to my
2 cats for the next 4 to 6 weeks for Ringworm. This may help.

| Another thing that has worked for me, is you place the pill
on the cats tongue, close it's mouth and blow into the cats
nostrils. They automatically swallow. The Vet showed me
the other procedured mentioned by Pam, but it didn't work
for me. The Vet did it with no trouble though...;-)

| I recently had to pill the crew and found that scraping the
pills in butter to coat them helped.

| We usually rub Oliver's throat when the pill is in - makes him swallow
automatically. Mind you, I think the main reason we don't have any
trouble with pills is that he's learned to associate the pill with
the treat afterwards. That cat is a PIG!!

Yup! That's what I've been saying about them (cats) all along!

| Thank God Dickens likes to eat his with dinner! But, if he ever
catches on to this little trick-on-himself, I will be happy to try
Pam's new method!
Thanks,

2944.7 | Pilling -- such fun, eh? | WELKIN::STRONACH | | Tue Oct 17 1989 12:23 | 12 |
| In "pilling" Snowball, we have discovered she's very, very smart. We've tried
all methods -- stroking her throat, blowing up her nostrils, trying to hide
it in food, or a piece of meat, etc. and she
has learned to "hold" the pill to one side of her mouth and spit it out
when we release her -- she even knows how to pretend to swallow - you know,
you see the adam's move up and down and you say --"good, she's swallowed it"
and lo and behold, she spits it out!! So, what we've done now is tickle
her tummy while holding her mouth shut.
She even knows the sound the pill bottle and goes into hiding!!

| When cats swallow a pill, their tongue will come out of their mouth
for an instant. That is the indicator that the pill is down. Works
better than watching the adam's apple.

| Aha! That must be why I've "known" recently that the pill has been
swallowed, without having to check the floor. I'll be watching
the next time!

2944.10 | just look and see if the pill is gone | CADSYS::RICHARDSON | | Thu Oct 19 1989 17:13 | 7 |
| I just open the cat's mouth again after it looks like she has swallowed
and see if the pill is still there! Both of mine are pretty good at
swallowing pills; that's easier than giving them liquid antibiotics or
something (makes them choke).
