| Dave -
Sounds like this guy might be lost. Have you checked your
neighbors or talked to the local kids to find out if anyone has
lost a cat. Also, call the local vets because folks post lost pet
signs at vets. Try putting an ad in the local paper - just BE CAREFUL
to be sure that the person who claims him really is his "human".
Some folks would take a cat like that and sell it for research!
Thanks for taking this little guy in and let me know if there's
anything I can do to help (besides taking him myself :-)

| Nancy,
I' have to lock the cat in the bathroom and it claws
the door to get out. Its a constant problem and I don't have either
the time nor the patience to go further - therefor the help asked
for in this ad.
The reason the cat is locked up is that I have a cat
that under similiar cirumstances became a part of the home. My
wife got attached to a stray and to avoid hurting her feelings I
allowed her to keep it. This has been amongst one of the biggest
mistakes in my life.
The thing climbs my speakers, claws my wallpaper
in a rented apartment - so far all the walls have been blessed ($$$$$).
I'm also a photographer and my photo equipment suffers losses of
small objects, sometimes rolls of film from paying customers ($$$$$$
more in losses) are batted into the strangest places. I've since
taken care of that problem (yes, the cat still lives). Too many
negative things to mention. If you don't want a dog to get to
something, you simply put it out of its reach. I'm not going to
change my life style more than necessary for any cat or two. Besides
- Cat No.1 picked a fight with No.2 - No.1 doesen't like 2. That
is why I have No. 2 hidden in the bathroom. I feel bad for it being
cofined, but that is all I can do or am willing or have the time
to do.
Needless to say I have no time to go the route of ads and awaiting
answers to adds or going further than asking other tennants in my
building if it belongs to them - It doesn't.
Do you know of anyone that will give it temporary shelter until
it finds a home. I don't want to put it out if it can be helped.

Re: .2
About your already in place cat:
Do you have scratching posts? Cats have a natural need to scratch
with their claws, so if no scratching post is available they'll use
whatever (wallpaper, speaker fronts, etc.) If you do have a
scratching post and your cat uses it, you may need additional ones
in other rooms; some cats only need one, but others won't go
any distance to it. If the cat doesn't use the post, it may be because
it is too lightweight, and moves when its used, which can frighten the
cat into thinking its going to fall over on it. The post
also needs to be long enough so that the cat can stretch out; some
posts are quite short. You (or better
yet your wife) can put some catnip on top of the post, coax the kitty
to it, and place the cat's paws on the surface of the post so the
cat will get the idea (when they reach up for the catnip, they
find out how good the post feels.)
As for the small objects, cats is cats. If you don't put small
interesting things away,
they will get catnapped. You can save yourself a lot of trouble
by changing your lifestyle a little. You should also get the cat
some toys, like the ctanip mice you can buy at the supermarket;
part of the problem seems to be that you cat is bored and using
up energy; the toys will give him or her something to do after
your "toys" are out of reach.
