| I really need to find a home for Mika FAST!!! Last night she attacked
poor Snorkel and if I hadn't broken it up, I'm afraid Snorkel might
have been badly injured. It's bad enough Snorkel has a big bite on her
stomach that bled pretty bad. Mika tried to attack Snorkel again this
morning, but I caught her in time. I've now had to separate the
cats and in a small apartment, this is quite inconvenient. It's
also not very fair to have to confine either one of them to just
one room. If I don't have a new home for Mika by Friday, I'm going
to have to be forced to take her to a shelter. If you'd like to
adopt this cat, please send me mail or call me at DTN 223-7271 ASAP.
Thanks,
Lori Barr

| Some cats just don't get along. Mika would probably do best
in a one cat household. Try to find a no kill shelter. There
are several listed: Kitty Angels in Tyngsboro, Just Cats, Inc in
Mansfield, The Greater Derry Humane Society in Derry NH (I think
they're full - they don't have a "shelter", the members take animals
into their homes - not a good place for Mika, I suspect). You might
call the folks doing the show in Braintree on the 21st & 22nd and
find out if any shelters will be represented there. Then call the
shelter and see if they'll let you bring Mika in to try and place.
The entry clerk for the Braintree show is Meg Lambert 508-222-3823
Also try putting up ads at your local vets and grocery stores.
If Mika is good other than attacking Snorkel, she might be good
for an elderly person.
Good Luck

| I had an idea. Perhaps you could offer a "trade" with one of the
shelters I mentioned. Take one of their cats that would get along
with Snorkel in exchange for them taking Mika.
Maybe they'd go for that. Of course you should give them a donation
too :-)

| Nancy,
Thanks for the advice! Fortunately, I talked to one of my friends
last night and she said that she was looking for a cat for her kids.
So I brought Mika over to her and she and the kids loved her. I'm
really happy that I could make my friend and her children happy
and save Snorkel from any more abuse.

2909.8 | A stitch in time saves nine...... | ZONULE::PORTER | EveryDarkTunnelHasALightOfHope | Mon Oct 16 1989 12:03 | 17 |
| Hi,
Just wanted to let everyone know that Snorkel is really doing much
better since Mika hasn't been around. She's happier and she's back to
her normal eating habits.
Unfortunately, as I mentioned in .2, she had been attacked by Mika last
week and had been bitten on her belly. Well, I picked her up on Friday
to see if it was healing and evidently she had been trying to pull the
dry blood off. In the process she opened the wound even more. I had to
bring her to the Vet. on Saturday morning. The Vet. had to give her
anesthesia so he could open it up and clean it out. She had to have 5
stitches to close her back up. The poor thing! It took her the whole
day to feel better. I think I'm going to have a hard time with her
when I have to bring her back on Wednesday to have the stiches removed.

If the vet visit was so traumatic maybe the vet will let you remove
the stitches yourself. It's not hard. Just lubricate them with
bacitracin or panalog and snip with clean sissors and pull the
end with tweezers. It will save both you and you cat a lot of
headaches. But be sure that you have a helper to hold her for you.
Also keep an eye out for an abcess on that spot. Cat bites and
scratches often abcess.
Keep us posted on her progress, we care about you!

| Thanks for the advice. My fiance is bringing her to the vet this
evening so he can take a look at her to see how she is doing. I'd
rather he remove the stiches (he's had a lot more experience!). She
has to have her shots anyway and I'll feel a whole lot better knowing
that she's been looked at by a professional.
I'll let you know how she is tomorrow.
Thanks again,
Lori B.

| Hi,
Snorkel is doing great. She went to the vets last night, but he didn't
want to remove her stiches until next week. He says she's healing
fine, but the stiches aren't ready to come out yet. He gave her her
yearly shots, and she took them like a trouper. I'm surprised she
acted so well after the trauma she went through on Saturday.
I'll keep you posted on her next visit to the vet.
