2906.0. "Angora prices?" by ROLL::BEFUMO (Knowledge perishes . . . understanding endures) Mon Oct 02 1989 10:24

    Can anyone provide a ballpark figure on what I can expect to pay for a
    pet-quality angora kittten? Any recommendations on breeders in the
    eastern MA area?  thanks.

    Sheri Mitchell of Arubacats was showing an angora neuter at the
    Framingham show. She might be able to point you in the right
    direction.  603 382-8418

    This may sound silly to some of you, but there are still people
    that think that Persians are Angoras. Does the basenoter want a
    Persian, or a Turkish Angora. There is a BIG difference.

    Jo
2906.3Yup, know the difference.ROLL::BEFUMOKnowledge perishes . . . understanding enduresMon Oct 02 1989 17:1014
    Years back I had a white angora that was absolutely the most beautiful,
    even-tempered animal imaginable. When we moved to MA we had so much
    trouble finding a place to live that would allow animals, that we had
    to give her up. Now that we've finally managed to get a place of our
    own, we decided to get another cat, & naturally assumed that our
    previous cat was typical of Angoras. However, my wife spoke to a
    breeder in New Hampshire this morning & she said that shw wouldn't sell
    a Turkish Angora to anyone with children because they tended to be very
    high strung and unpredictable. My wife decided to go for a Maine Coon
    (which I've never heard of, but that certainly doesn't mean anything),
    and when I went home for lunch I found that she had wound up going out
    & getting a show-quality cream-colored persian from a breeder in
    Brookline.

    Thanks, Critter walked right in, meowed, jumped into my lap, & started
    to PURRRRRRRRRRRR. Definitely love at first sight 8^). I may have
    had a few misgivings about the $$$$s, but not any more 8^)

    re: Angora personalities - I had heard that from Sherry too when
    I talked to her at the last show. She said its funny because the
    cat she's showing is a little doll and the judges expect her to
    be high strung.
       This one's all white too - maybe its the same cat ;-)

    An angora breeder told me that part of the reason why they are so
    high strung is that alot of them are deaf. Most of the angoras
    that we see are of the blue-eyed white variety, and many of them
    are deaf. The startle easier when they can't hear, and they are
    more difficult to comfort since they can't hear your reassurances.

    Jo
2906.8Yes, I heard that too.ASHBY::BEFUMOKnowledge perishes . . . understanding enduresWed Oct 04 1989 08:412
    Yes, the breeder mentioned the deafness to me also. Too bad - they're
    such outstanding animals to look at.
