I received an invitation to the annual Humane Awards banquet sponsored by the MSPCA yesterday. The envelope had a wonderful quote on it. "Teaching a child not to step on a caterpillar is as important to the child as it is to the caterpillar" Wonderful sentiment.

I like that. As a younger person, I always killed most bugs, ESPECIALLY spiders. Now (that I'm not so young), I always feel a little guilty if I kill an insect (unless it's mosquito). I even have a resident spider (black and ugly) living around my house. However, the poor thing almost got it the other day when he crawled across my pillow! YUCK! Mary

If bugs have mothers that care, then Smokey must be causing many unhappy Mother's Days for the local grasshoppers. :-}

I also will kill nothing without a reason. I'm afraid that I do go after mosquito's with a vengence however. Its them or me!! I also feel no love for carpenter ants, but if they stay out of my house then I leave them alone. The cats however, have a reason for going after the dragonflies and grasshoppers......LUNCH ! |
