I am due to go on holiday soon and was not to sure what to do about 'Tabina'. We were quite lucky last year and had somebody come in twice a day to feed her clean the tray and make sure she was in for the night. However we have'nt been so fortunate this year, so we went to look at a cattery (in Tidmarsh for all you local Reading folks). To be honest I was'nt too impressed, althougth the cats looked well fed and clean, they looked pretty bored. The cat was confined to a small five foot square cage, I could'nt think of our poor kitty being confined for two weeks with nobody to play with. The second option is that a friend (they used to own our cat's mother but she recently died) who has one of our cat's 'daughters' (who is about 13 weeks old) but, not allowed out yet has volunteered to look after her, (keeping her in the house). I am not to sure what her reaction to the kitten would now be. Anybody offer any advice or what the average cattery offers. Shaz

Too bad you weren't in the States, I run a petsitting business, and what I do is come out to your house twice a day to feed the animals and give them water and pet them and play with them and brush and feed them... maybe there are services like that over there as well??

If you should need a cattery in the future look at: The Ceefer Cattery near Streatley - bright, clean, somewhat constricting, yes but lots of room to jump, a window to look out of, a pal to look at through the glass sneeze barrier, room for toys and own bed,heated area for wintertime and elderly cats tender loving care, even a radio with lots of human voices and music when there is no-one actually in with the cats ..... my Jenny, a real outdoor girl came away none the worse for wear on several occasions and neither of us can speak too highly of the place. Also, in the more luxurious class comes The Cat's Whiskers between Woodcote and Henley - they have pens round a central courtyard,with both outdoor and indoor runs, lots of space in each pen and lots of things to climb on, sleep on, hide in..........We might try it out ourselves soon although it is a little pricier than others. sorry, vital lack of punctuation in my last note..... `elderly cats tender loving care' should read `elderly cats, tender loving care'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a slight difference! Avril
2836.5 | why not a co-op trading in home care? | MEMORY::BROWER | Bob Shr 1-4 | Fri Sep 08 1989 11:23 | 11 |
Why not start a co-operative in here?? Some of our neighbors well up to a mile away so not close neighbors recently went away for two weeks. My wife and I took care of (three families) 5 dogs, 8 cats, 15 chickens and 1 horse. Naturally they stayed at their homes and we'd check on them for feeding and playing 2-3 times daily. This allowed the animals to remain in familiar surroundings and was actually quite fun. I'd be willing to do the same thing for anyone within say 5-10 miles of New Braintree. Bob |
