2811.0. "Kitty Humor" by SCRUZ::CORDES_JA (Set Apartment/Cat_Max=3) Tue Aug 29 1989 16:51

I saw the cutest cartoon in Cosmopolitan this month. Boy, did it
hit home. I wanted to share it with you guys but obviously I can't
put the picture in here so I'll do my best to describe it.

    Picture this...

There is a guy standing on the closed toilet seat. He has the
toilet tank open and is holding a cat in scuba mask and air tank.
The caption says, "Okay Fluffy you can come out now, the landlord
    is gone."

Although I've never gone to such lengths to hide the cats, I have
done some pretty weird things and this cartoon had me in rolling
    on the floor.

The other cartoon I truly love is the one with the cat standing
in a bathtub with his back to this huge tongue (hanging on the wall
like a shower head). The caption is simply "Cat Showers".

The conversations about allergies, humor and children reminded me of a
cartoon I saw this week. A wife is saying to her husband, "Darling,
let's get rid of the children. The pets are allergic to them."

Here's a good one that someone clipped and gave to me...

The cartoon shows a "kitty marriage counselor" talking to a "husband
and wife kitty couple"...the caption reads:

"Things haven't been the same since he coughed up that blond hair
    ball."

    I found it cute!

I have a cartoon over my desk from one of the cat mags I'm sure.

it is of two aliens and a cat. The aliens are saying "Take us to
your leader." The thought-bubble over the cat says "I *am* their
    leader"

    How true.

Andy clipped this one from a paper for me: two cats are
sitting in front of a fireplace knitting sweaters. Two humans
are also in the picture, and the caption reads:

"They started by playing with a small ball of yarn, and
gradually their skills and interest level grew."

    Farside guy?

Keep them funnies a comin' folks. These are great! Everyone is
wondering why I'm sitting here laughing so hard.

re: Larson - Yup, that's the guy. I have a farside comic that
shows a husband and wife cat, the wife is opening a can on the
canopener and through the kitchen door you can see another
husband & wife cat heading this way. The captions reads:

"Zelda!! Cool it...The Rothenbergs hear the can opener!"

I have a Far Side Mug...two captions on it, the first is a woman
yelling at her pet, with a big ballon filled with blah's ect.
The caption says: "What we say to cats"

The second picture is the same but this time the ballon coming from
the yelling woman is empty, and the caption says: "What cats
hear" (Or something along that line...my mind is in neutral right
    	now)

While we're on a Gary Larson roll...

I have a cartoon hanging on my wall. It shows two cats inside
a house, one looking out a broken window, a bone lying on the
floor that was apparently thrown through the window and cat
one reading a paper that has the words "ARF ARF ARF" using cut
out newspaper letters. The caption reads "Dog threat letters".

re: .8 I've seen a similar cartoon. The top one shows a woman
scolding her dog and shows what she's saying. The bubble over
the dog's head shows what he's hearing - all it has in it is the
dog's name. This is entitled "What dogs hear"
Below that is a similar cartoon of woman and cat entitled
"What cats hear" and the bubble above the cat's head is empty :-)

Personally I think they understand everything we say to them, but
    dont want to let on.

I remember seeing a cartoon in a magazine around Thanksgiving time, it
pictured a family sitting down to a turkey dinner, and two cats sitting
on a chair watching the turkey being carved. One says to the other,
"wow, they don't even play with it first"

Then there's the one showing a man and woman, sitting down in their
easy chairs. The woman is knitting (of course!), and the man is
reading the paper (of course!). The cat is sitting on the floor,
in front of them, with a gas mask on. The woman is saying to the
man, "I think it's time to clean the litter box".

I have this one hanging on the wall near our cats' box.

Tho not for us cat lovers, the man who sits behind me has the
unpleasant experience (his opinion) of listening to me talk about
my cats all day. He hates cats.

Anyway, he posted the following cartoon outside of his office:

A man and a woman are sitting in a restaurant engaged in conversation.
They are getting very dirty looks from the people at the tables
    all around them.

The waiter is standing over the man and woman talking and he says
to them, "I'm sorry but you are going to have to move. This is
the no talking about cats section."

I have to admit, it even made ME laugh!

Didn't quite know where to put this, so decided here was as good
a place as any because it is funny.

My sister gave me a craft that she made, which is a basket, with
three little kittens. It's all made out of clothe. I finally decided
to place it on my married sons empty bed between two kitten pillows.
Well Oliver has taken it over. He spends just about the whole
day and part of the evening trying to sit in the basket. Only his
head and front paws manage to get in. He still sleeps with me through
the night. We can't decide if he thinks these
are his babies or he's one of them. I know he recognizes his toys,
but to recognize stuffed kittens is something else.

What a cat!!! I've taken a dozen pictures.

Anyone have a similar experience or any ideas? Could he be lonesome?
     He has Geronimo (dog).

Yes, that reminds me of Missy's little `friend'...I bought
a slightly-more-than-lifesize stuffed cat at a craft show and
brought it home. It's resting on it's front paws with the
hind end up in the air..but the BEST part is the little ball
of yarn glued to it's front paws...Missy would sneak up on it,
jump up, and try to steal it's ball of yarn away....

2811.19I meant to do that!! WR2FOR::CORDESBRO_JOset home/cat_max=infinityTue Apr 09 1991 20:4618
The cartoon "Silvia" by Nicole Hollander often has cute cat strips in it. This
week I clipped this one.

On the far left of the room, someone on the TV is talking and saying "Cats
should always be reprimanded immediately, because after a few minutes, they
probably won't remember what they did."

In the middle of the room there are two cats, one with it's arm around the other
facing the reader. The cat on the left says "Maybe that's because we're think-
ing about stuff", and the cat on the right says "I spend most of my time
memorizing long passages from big books."

:^D :^D :^D Maybe I am weird, but I think this is hysterically funny. It kind
of goes along with my cats' attitude that they do everything on purpose. If one
of them falls off the window sill, they stand up and look me right in the eye
as if to say "I meant to do that!"

This one was in the newspaper a couple of weeks ago. It reminds me of
my own cats and I'm sure many others will agree.

    It's Garfield.

Garfield is sitting on his masters head while he is sleeping. Garfield
is kneeding his face. Finally later on in the day..Garfield is
sleeping and his master walks over to him and says "Oh Gaaarrrfield..."
    Garfield says" Oh, nooooo"

    Master:" "Guess what I've got?...
Garfield (hiding underneath a blanket): "An annoying personality?"
Master (pulling out a ball of yarn): TAH-DAH! A BALL OF YARN!!
Garfield (still underneath blanket): Good for you.
Master: (poking Garfield): Aw, C'mon, Garfield! All cats like to play
    		with yarn!
Garfield (still under blanket): Not when they're sleepy they don't.
Master (shaking him): ;C'MON! ;C'MON OUT AND PLAY WITH THE UARN!
Garfield (terribly annoyed): If you insist...
Garfield (after he has tied up his master with the ball of yarn. The
ball of yarn is in his master's mouth): He's right...that was
    		fun...

    I got a good laugh out of that....and everytime I read it...of course, a
picture is worth a thousand words.... but I hope you all get the
    point.

jo, you're right. cats have such a tremendous sense of dignity (have
you ever seen the look one of them gives you if you have the audacity
to laugh at one of their "faux pas"?)

so, of course, falling off the window sill seemed like a neat thing to
    do at the time... ;-)

I just finished reading Sandy Merritt's intro note about her nephew where
she tells the following anecdote:

Well as we were filling out the adoption papers...one of the questions
was "why do you want this cat". My nephew looked up so innocently
and said "because we don't have a white one".

I thought this reply was great! and it made me think of a couple of others,
having gone through the adoption process recently.

Q: Why do you want this cat?
A: Why shouldn't I? :-)

and the following, which is true but paraphrased due to memory failure:
(acknowledgements to Bill, who filled out this form)

Q: Will this cat be indoors or outdoors?
A: Whatever he/she wants.

By the way, I strongly recommend you all read this topic (2811) and topic 2024
again. They are both very short, and are great for a bunch of laughs.

And, I'd like to add one of my favorite Far Sides.

A lady cat is sitting in an armchair with a box of chocolates on her lap.
A man cat is pointing to the box:

"These little ones are mice...These over here are hamsters...Ooh! This must
be a gerbil!".

Come to think of it, those chocolate lumps are pretty rodenty looking :-)

Jill who could really identify with the box of chocolates :-)
