2785.0. "Meet Booker!" by EDUHCI::SHERMAN (Barnacle 1) Mon Aug 21 1989 00:47

                          Meet "Booker."

Been at the Grafton (MA) Public Library for eight weeks.

    A real marshmallow.

Black shorthair with white bib and white feet. Beautiful gold eyes.

Neutered male. No one knows where he came from, but the concensus
is he is a "condo kitty" [*ssh*le owner moved into condo with 'no
pets' clause, so poor Booker was dumped at the library to fend for
himself. I'd like to dump the owner out for several weeks to fend
    for him/herself, grumble, grumble ...]

Well fed and obviously in good health.

A real sweetheart. Extremely fastidious; litter trained. Clearly
a cat of distinction (which is more than I can say for the owner).
Not a mean bone in his body.

Estimate 3 years old. About 8 pounds.

I already have 8 other cats and a dog -- have to draw the line
    somewhere.

Mildest kitty I've seen in a long time. Just throws himself down
and rubs his head on your feet so you'll notice him.

    If interested, Ken Sherman @MRO

Library & Books = Booker. I like it.

Unfortunately I already have three kitties (2 with medical problems)
    and can't afford any more.

I hope you do find a good home for him. He deserves one . How about
    the librarians???

    Sorry,

Sandi (mom to Lightning, DejaVu & Thunder)

    P.S. I agree about the ex-owner. Definitely sub-human material

I'm trying to convince a co-worker of mine to take Booker for her
mother. She's been talking about doing that for a while. Her
mother loves cats and the combination of an older, laid-back cat
who spends sometime outdoors would be perfect for her.
The only thing that worries my co-worker is if things didn't
work out. Would you be willing to offer a "trial" and take
Booker back if it didn't work?

    Ken-

I've seen Booker, in fact we tried to take him home one night.
What a friendly little bugger....he came up to us and played, rolled
rubbed...showed all sorts of affection...But when we tried to take him
home, he booked off. (he was in my friends arms as she shut the door
and as they started up the truck, he bolted from the noise).

I think he's been around longer than you said, as this was several
months ago (@ the Grafton Inn), but that one could have been a
different one :*( but he does fit your description.

They didn't have the windows closed? he could have bolted out
anywhere on the way home, and then been in a worse situation than he
    is in now.

gosh no, we were talking in the parking lot and he was all curled up
in her arms and she started the truck up and he took off. We tried to
get him to come back but he was real leary( besides it was real late).
We have looked for him on occasion, claiming we'd take him home to
clean him up and find him a more permant position in society...but it
looks like we've been looking in the wrong place......oh well

    Re. .2 -

Absolutely. Thanks for the offer. If your coworker's mother finds
it doesn't work out, we will indeed take him back, once again
upsetting the precarious "hiss-balance" of a 9 cat household.
I have no doubt that Booker will work out anyplace given even
    half a chance.

Please let me know how you'd like to arrange for transfer.

I'm so glad that Booker might have a home. Please, during
transportation, try to use a cat carrier or something that you can
close and tie. I would hate to see him terrified again by the sound of
    the car.

DRAT! My co-worker really wants to get her mother a cat, and so
does her sister, but the mother has refused. Her reasons are that
she doesn't want to get attached to another cat and have to go
through that grief when the cat dies or disappears (she's used to
outdoor cats). One daughter is trying to convince her that litter-
boxes aren't the worst thing in the world and that she should keep
the cat indoors. Doesn't look good at this point. I've strongly
suggested that the two daughters kidnap the mother to the cat
show in Framingham. I have a feeling that once she gets there she'll
change her mind about a cat and hopefully take one of the shelter
    cats that are always there.
Some folks just don't know what's good for 'em :^)

Sorry I didn't have better news. I really thought Booker was a great
    cat for this situation. Sigh....

    Double drat!

Thanks for trying, anyway. Perhaps there's still hope.

Keep trying Ken. Try putting ads up at the local grocery stores.
that worked for me. You could also try the cat show route that
I've suggested in other notes. Kitty Angels made the offer to me
to bring Tym to one of the shows they were going to be at with
    cats for adoption.
