| Hi,
I guess I would consider spaying your female very soon and
then having your male neutered at 8 months. I like to have
my females spayed at 6 months - before they go through their
first heat. If your male starts spraying before 8 months,
I'd just bring him on down for neutering (at least after he
is 6 - 7 months old) - once the males start spraying, it's
tough to break the habbit.
Sometimes a 6 month old male can get a female 'with kitties'
even at that tender age! That's why I'd have your female
done as soon as.....better kittenless than her becoming
prego !!

| To answer your show question, yes, cats can be showed after being
spayed/neutered. This was news to me too, being more familiar with
the dog world. So I would second ET and have her spayed as soon as
possible.
Karen.

| re: 0
oops! Sorry, I missed the last part of your question -
Unless my guess is wrong, it sure sounds like the start
of heat to me. If she is displaying any behavior that
is different than her usual, I'd guess that she is in
heat. Usually you can't miss it - even I figured it
out! and all my kids are spayed!

| I agree with Elaine...chirping and rolling are classic signs of
heat from what I've heard (Of course I couldn't tell that Melynda
was in heat! but then, she was growling even when happy)
I'd get her spayed ASAP - and yes, you'll show her as an apparent
purebred since you don't have papers on her. If you did have the
papers you'd show her in the altered purebred class.
Hope you'll be joining us cat-showers soon :-)

Thanks!! I talked to Hollie yesterday and she said to
"tickle" her on her back just above her tail and if
she starts scooting on her back legs, she's in heat.
Well, she's in heat!!
She has an appointment Saturday so I'll set her up
for a spay then.
I'm waiting to find out the date of the show in Nashua
and a friend of mine and I may check it out. I want
to go to one first to see what it's all about. Sounds
like fun though! And I'm sure I'll fall in love with
each and every furface there! :-)

| In CFA, a cat that is to be shown as a household pet *must* be spayed
if it is over 8 months old.
The signs to look for in your male cat. If he tries to bite the
back of her neck, or climb on top of her, then you are seeing the
beginning of trouble. Kalliste started dragging my queens around
by the neck when he was only 5 months old.
You may find that her seasons confuse him and/or stimulate him.
Their interactions may be different during her seasons.

Well so far he hasn't really given her a second look...
Just trying to figure out what all her crying is about!
But on her trip to the vet Saturday I will make an appt.
for her to be spayed.
Thanks!!
