    Tammi:

I'm in shock! Please tell us what happend to Bear, I couldn't find
it anywhere in the notes files. (Or just point me in the right
direction.) I'm so sorry for your loss, all four of us really enjoyed
your stories. Bear reminds us of our Spot, (she has bear paws)
    and loves to make trouble.

Please know that we are thinking of you with kindness and sympathy.

2706.4Bear's StoryMAMTS1::TTAYLORTue Jul 25 1989 16:0139
I went home to Massachusetts for the weekend with friends (to
Hyannisport) and when I returned Sunday night (after an 11 1/2 hour
drive home, no less) Terri and George told me the minute I walked
    through the door what happened.

It is very painful to write this, Bear was like my child and I'm
    really upset but here goes:

Bear recently started going nuts, trying to get out of the house,
even with Tia to play with, he still wanted his freedom, so George
thought it might be safe enough to let him out at night. Since
my birthday party July 2nd, we had been letting him outside for
a little while every night, and he really loved it.

While I was gone, Terri and George were walking Zeus (our doberman)
and Bear (Zeus and Tia were Bear's best friends) decided to follow
them. He rushed across the street without looking to follow them
and this car came out of nowhere and hit him, throwing him into
the bushes and the car didn't even stop. Two cars behind that car
stopped and found Bear. Terri and George didn't know what was really
happening, they asked the people in the cars who stopped what color
the cat was and when they said black, they KNEW it was Bear. Both
of them cried and cried, he was the baby of our family and we all
    loved his charismatic personality.

Bear's back was broken, he was still alive, he responded to Terri
calling his name by crying and George carried him to the house in
his arms. Ten minutes later he was dead, Terri had the vet come
all the way from Fairfax, in the meantime, Tia never left his side
and Terri told me that Bear laid his paw on Tia's face, as if trusting
she would take care of him (Tia is their cream colored Siamese).

But he died and my life will not be the same without him. I miss
    him terribly.

    Heartbroken,

    Tammi (who_isn't_complete_without_my_baby_Bear)

    Tammi--

We're all sorry to hear, too. I know how I would feel if one of
mine went suddenly. I believe that for every door that's closed,
another is opened somewhere--I hope you find your open door soon.

TAmi...also, so sorry to hear about Bear. Time heals wounds, but
doesn't erase the memories. Hang on to the memories, and know that
Bear was sooooooo happy in the little bit of time he had with all
    of you.

I know just how you feel Tammy. I lost my little Romeo the same
way three years ago.... and though time heals these wounds (so they
say) the memories are still there. My thoughts are with you.

It is possible that the driver truly did not see what happen. Not
likely, but it is possible. It was nice of the other drivers to stop
and assist. I feel terrible for you, especially since you were not
there. How sad, but remember how much he enjoyed life while you were
    together.
And if the driver "did" know what happen, may the world's largest and
deepest potpole open up to consume this uncaring monster, swallowing
both car and driver into the oblivion of the coldrons of the earth.

    Tammi -
God knows that Bear has alot of good company and special
playmates where he is now. I don't think there's any one of
us that doesn't feel with you right now. Many many of us know
exactly what you're going through because we experienced it
    first hand.
      Love,

    Tammi,
You have my deepest sympathies. I know how you feel because
it is today exactly one month since I lost my cat "Patate".
I still hurt, I still miss her terribly, but I do get a lot
of consolation from the many lovely memories I have of her.
Time will hopefully remove the pain we both feel about the loss
of our cats, but the memories will remain. I feel for you, Tammi.

    re: .16

Sob .... Bear was a Himalayan too.

There's sort of a happy ending to this, anyway, I've been inundated
with offers for "replacement" kittens. Right now, I'm not ready
for another one, (no one can replace my baby Bear) but my manager,
Duane Taylor (my "surrogate father-figure" here in the MAA!) is
giving me one of HIS cat's babies from her first litter in a few
    weeks.

I thank all of you for your support and kindness throughout all
this sad period in my life. Bear's memory will haunt me for all
my life, I loved him so.

    Tammi

Tammi - "haunt" has got to be the wrong word. I'm sure that
with time you'll remember the good times you two had and I
hope it will make you smile.
