2687.0. "Need help finding a vet" by CSG001::PRIESTLEY () Mon Jul 17 1989 17:39
I don't know if anyone here can help me, but here goes:
I was looking for a place to volunteer a month or so ago, and found
a no-kill shelter called Just Cats in Mansfield,MA. They really
didn't need any more help, but a group from Boston called Animal
Umbrella had requested support from the owner of JC. She was unable
to help herself due to lack of time, but offered to try to get together
some people to help out.
There are six of us now, and we're starting up a new branch of Animal
Umbrella in our area--our first project has already been chosen--there
are ten stray cats living in a barn at the Wrentham State Hospital
that we plan to catch and have spayed or neutered. Wrentham state
will continue to feed the cats after that.
The problem is, we can't find a vet who is willing to work with
feral cats at reduced rates. Just Cats uses Dr. Best in Foxboro,
but he is over-extended now and can't take on any more "charity work"
It's very frustrating right now, because we have the people and
the funding to get started, but can't find a vet willing to help.
We're looking for someone in the Norton, Mansfield, Wrentham,
Attleboros, and that area.
If anyone knows of a good, kind, understanding vet in that area
could they please contact me at CSGDEC::Priestley or call DTN 291-0447?
Thanks,
Michelle

2687.1 | He is a possibility | BUGEYE::URCIUOLI | | Tue Jul 18 1989 08:51 | 6 |
| Have you tried to contact Dr. Silberhorn of the Norton Animal
Hospital? I do not know if he would help out but it is worth
a try. They are on Rt 123 in Norton. The number is (508) 285-9822.
Hi is our vet for our 3 furry faces.

| Perhaps you could use one of the FOA participating vets. That
would cover the "reduced rate" part. I have the list if you're
interested.

2687.3 | Already tried | CSG001::PRIESTLEY | | Tue Jul 18 1989 09:28 | 11 |
| We've already asked Dr. Silberhorn and he doesn't want to have anything
to do with it (although he has been willing to help some of our
members on a case by case basis).
As for FOA, for whatever reasons Animal Umbrella (the founding Boston
branch) wishes to stay away from FOA vets. (I don't know why, but
that is what was stated to us when we met with the founding group.)
Thanks,
Michelle
