In this months CAT Fancy there was an article about putting cats for adoption on local cable stations. Since it seems there are some feliners that volunteer for the humane societies, I thought I would enter this as an idea to try. I know the local cable stations in Mass. are supposed to offer public access programing. I'm sure if you got in touch with your local cable station you could set up a show to help find homes for the pets. I think it would be a great way to get homeless pets adopted. I can't take in any more pets, but would watch the show anyway just see all those cute little faces. I think if people saw all these pets that need homes they may be more willing to give them a home. "Out of sight out of mind" right? Kathy

Framingham already uses cable TV for the dogs at the pound. Not sure if the cats are on it yet. You're right - it is a good media for adoption.

If anyone has a camcorder they could visit their local shelter video tape the cats, perhaps with one of the shelter workers as a guide and providing some naration about each cat. Nancy DC

I think the late, lamented Channel 21 in Concord, NH used to run a "pet of the week" spot occasionally. They'd use a still picture and give a short description, directing interested viewers to the shelter. The Concord Monitor runs pet adoption pictures, too, so you might want to try local papers. Newspapers often don't want to go to the trouble to arrange such things themselves, but if you arrange to get a weekly picture and description to them, they'll almost certainly run it. Beverly |
