| The Worcester S.P.C.A. is receiving an average of 100 kittens per
week according to a radio report that I heard this morning. It's really
heartbreaking that people seem to be ignoring the message or not
receiving it about getting their animals neutered!! There is NO EXCUSE
for this in a "civilized" society!! These babies didn't ask to be
brought into the world, and it really makes me upset that humans are
the cause and won't take the responsibility for them!!
Thank GOD there are people like the ones who NOTE here and in
"CANINE"!! At least SOME of them will get good, happy and secure
homes!!

The problem is the age of the kitten(s).
A kitten needs to be a least 6 months old before they can be spayed
or nutered.

That's true, but the adopters COULD be asked to sign a spay/neuter
agreement.
The one's that should have been neutered are the MOTHERS of these
poor unfortunates!!

| I agree with John; if all shelters were like breeders and required
people to adhere to sign and adhere to a spay/neuter agreement,
it would decrease the pet overpopulation problem substantially.

| The San Francisco Humane Society is working on a program that would
allow the shelters to spay and neuter all cats and kittens before
they are adopted. I read an article about it in the newspaper.
It is some new technique, and is currently being researched. If
I hear anymore about it, I will post it here.

| Before you can adopt a cat from a couple of local shelters, you have to
pay a deposit for spaying and neutering, which is refunded when you bring
in a signed thing from a vet, or used to cover the costs of the
shelters' vets doing it.

| re: .6 I know that when I got Mao from the MSPCA at the age of
5 months they charged me $35 (Bumpy cost $5) and Angell Memorial
did the spay free of charge - they even kept her an extra day because
her fever was up a bit. If I had had her neutered elsewhere they
would have refunded $30 of the $35.
So in essence the shelters ARE neutering the animals for free.
