2608.1 | How do we stop this from happening? | HPSTEK::BOURGAULT | | Fri Jun 23 1989 14:21 | 18 |

Elaine,
I don't blame you at all for removing note 2599. I just hope
for you and your pets it isn't too late. I think it did good while
it was there. Those who read the notes regularly got the warning.
Is there anything us ordinary folks can do about something
like this? I keep thinking there is strength in numbers and if
enough people complain to the right places, something would be done.
I just have no idea where the right place is or how to complain to
them.
If you prefer to reply to this off-line, please feel free. I
just want to make sure this sort of thing gets stopped.

| What I don't understand is why Mr. Elliot was allowed to open a
new shelter after everything that was printed and confirmed about
his previous one! That aspect of the story makes absolutely no
sense to me!!

| Elaine,
I'm sorry that you had to remove the note on "Gus". I
certainly thought you had more than sufficient basis to enter
such a note and also thought that you handled the situation very
well. It really is too bad that a few amongst us can cause so
much grief for those of us that that do care about being "in
touch with reality". I'm sure the detractors were amongst the
minotity (although definitely vocal). In any event - thanks for
having the courage to enter such a note and I hope that someone
will have the courage to again enter such a note when the need
arises (and it will).
Thanks again
/s/ Bob

2608.4 | what we are doing | LEVERS::E_MCDONALD | | Mon Jun 26 1989 13:51 | 22 |
| From another mail message I recieved, he apparently paid some fines
or something like that. Because the message said that people at the
Sterling Town meeting complained but that the majority of people
felt that he should have a second chance. I would not have agreed.
From my experience at town meetings people can be easily swayed
by a free cup of coffee and a donut so they probably didn't think
about it much. He also managed to threaten one person who complained
about him after the meeting.
What we are planning on is complaining to 3 anti-abuse orginization.
This will probably trigger the orginazations to look into it. They
will probably call the shelter and let them know that a complaint
has been made. Hopefully this will scare them enough so that they
make sure the animals are treated properly. If more people get
animals from the shelter that are abused and call the orginizations
then they will probably try to take the liscense away.
Thanks,
Elaine
What I don't understand is why don't they go into some other business.
I suggest they open a donut shop (that sounds pretty safe to me).
