I was recently told that Brewer's Yeast added to a pet's diet
MAY reduce chances of fleas. Is there any truth to this? Has
anyone tried this method?

I have been sprinkling brewer's yeast powder on my kitties' food
for quite a while now and don't seem to have a problem with fleas.
Of course, they are indoor cats so they have less of a problem anyway.
When I first took Carrie in I got bunches of fleas off of her. I
started her on the same program of adding brewer's yeast to her food
and now when I comb her all I get off of her is lots of hair (she's
a longhair) I haven't gotten any fleas in quite a while. I know
they still have a few of them but I can't find them when I flea
comb them. An added bonus is that their coats feel so soft and
silky. I think the brewer's yeast improves the coat quality too.

Yeah, but Jan, you live on the fourth floor of an apartment building,
and I don't think that the fleas "do" stairs. ;^)

Are you trying to tell me that fleas are afraid of heights?
Actually I'm on the 2nd floor, its just that they have to walk up
4 flights of stairs to get to me.
Honestly though, Carrie had tons of them when she first came in.
Maybe they've all jumped off of her and spread themselves among
the other two 'cause I can't find any when I comb her now.

When I was considering building an outdoor enclosure, I read that
fleas can only jump 12 inches, and that if I put the enclosure up
off the ground, like on my deck, they wouldn't be able to get in
it, especially with the floor being redwood slats. The idea being
that if they did jump up that high, they would have to have good
aim to get between the slats. May be a crock, who knows.
That would have to be a determined flea to climb four flights of
stairs to get to your cats! I think that once you took care of
the "hitchhikers" that were already on Carrie, you have a very small
chance of having a flea problem anyway, with or without the Brewers
Yeast.
Brewers Yeast didn't help with our flea problem at all!
Just another thought on fleas and bombing. A neighbor came over
recently to ask if I thought that it would be dangerous to set off
a flea bomb in her garage since her water heater has a pilot light
and the bomb says keep away from heat or flame.
My answer "boy, that gives whole new meaning to the phrase 'bomb
the house'!!" ;^) ;^) That ought to teach them pesky fleas!!!

My cats turn their nose up at brewer's yeast, but I'm willing to
give anything a try. Thanks for offering hope.
I have indoor cats or at least the only time they are allowed is
on to the deck. Consquently I have to believe that fleas can and
in fact do jump more than 12 inches. Or they jump 12 inches at
a time up something until they reach their destination -- MY BOYS.
Oh well, what's a mother to do.
