2571.0. "English Burmese Breeders?" by NZOV01::GRAHAM (Chas - CMG/SWS @ HMO) Wed Jun 14 1989 07:04

A question for any people living in the south of England.

Are there any breeders of Burmese that anyone would recommend. I
am interested in importing them into New Zealand for breeding. At
the moment I am owned by two burmese (seal point and blue) and one
    abby.

Thanks for any info - Chas

    Hi Chas,

    I can't give a personal recommendation but...

I spoke with someone who breeds Silver Tabby's and she gave me a name
    in Maidenhead.

I phoned this woman (Mrs Lowe) and she will gladly try and help,
or put you in touch with someone who can. She mentioned that she could
put you in contact with the Burmese Cat Club.

She said you are welcome to contact her at:

    HI,

While I can't recommend any breeders in England from experience,
I do have the names and addresses of dozens in my English 'Cat World'
magazines, you can look at one when you're next in Auckland if you
like, just ask Roger to bring one in.

Out of curiousity, what's inspired you to import from England rather
than using home-grown or Aussie Burmese? We've toyed with the idea
from time to time of importing a breed that doesn't exist here,
like Maine Coons or Norwegian Forest Cats, so I'll be interested
in your experiences/hassles e.g. with MAF if you decide to go ahead.
Are you going to England to choose/collect, or having them sent?

It's nice to feel parochial for a change, instead of isolated! I.e.
we're probably the only two readers who know what MAF is!

    Re: MAF

We have MAF over here as well.

The question is, who has the original?

    :-) :-)

How long can we keep the US feliners guessing???

    Re; Importing

    When I rang the breeder in Maidenhead, she asked me the same question;
why you wanted to import from the UK. She answered her own question by
suggesting that you were looking to strengthen the breed with
    outside stock

    Hi All,

It isn't just Digital that has acronyms - governments have 'em too.
    :-) enuf hints ...

My mother-in-law has been into dog breading and occasional cat breeding
for years and has found that trying to bring in either from the
US is nigh impossible while England is easier.

The reason for the english rather than NZ or Oz lines is just as
you said Geoff. The lines on mine and my mother-in-laws (she has
burmese as well) are interrelated and its time we tried to strengthen
the breed with some outside lines.

My MIL has someone going over to the south of england so thats why
    I specified the area.

I'm just playing it by ear at the mo but I sure would like a look
    at any cat world mags.

    cheers Chas

    Silver Tabbies!

British Silver Tabbies - I am dying to buy one have been looking
for years. I haven't been able to get to the UK to look and I
haven't known anyone who I could ask. I knew of an old breeder
in Old Windsor in 1981 but I haven't been able to track her down

Please contact me either through notes or CGOO01::LMILLER so I can
    get some more info.

    Thanks
