2541.0. "A Saturday Happening" by WFOV12::GONCALVES () Mon Jun 05 1989 18:22

    	Hi fellow feliners:

Boy did I have the scare of my life this weekend.
Our female siamese got outside and we don't know
how long she was out. When we found her, she was
foaming from the mouth and she was panting heavily.
I had never seen her react this way.

Called the vet and while I had him on the phone,
we took her temp. and then put her into a cool bath
of water which she hated. The vet seemed to think
that she ate something that was bitter while being
a little bit overheated. Saturday was a hot day.

Needless to say, I've never seen my husband spring
into action to take care of Selina. She isn't his
favorite (or so I thought). After a lot of worrying
and a lot of time on the phone with the vet, we soon
settled down to watch her. The vet said to call him
back immediately if we notice her having any problems.
After drying her off completely, hubby and cat settled
down for a long afternoon's nap. It was an adorable
picture, husband and cat side-by-side sound asleep.

    	Boy what a !

What a way to spend a Saturday!

Well, I guess Hubby showed his true colours!! These menfolk try to act
more aloof than the cats do, but I'll bet there are lots of them who
secretly get up in the middle of the night to make sure a sick kitty is
    OK...

Poor little kitty; she must have been scared out of her fur!!

Glad to hear she's alright! I'd have been pretty worried!

re: menfold - Ya, Jack will go from telling me to get rid of
Tymothee NOW to playing with him in the back yard. I guess
he really likes cats, he just gets (understandably) upset
when Tym beats up on Mao.

I agree. A URI infected all of our cats recently (except Chauncey) and
Dana has been extra loving to all of them throughout it. He also
helped me medicate and feed and was almost in tears listening to
them cough and sneeze -- they really sounded awful! But we're pretty
much back to normal now with all the cats either better or on the
road to recovery. Boy, they sure can worry us!

     Re .0
From the sounds of the symptoms, it's extremely likely she had an
encounter with a toad. I've had cats that have never seen a toad before
saunter up to them with those curious ears and eyes, and proceed to
take the critter in their mouth....OOOPS!! Darn!! Those things taste
BITTER!!! Foam, foam, foam, spit, spit, YECHHHH!!!

Since Steve left the water tank lid open, and Tequila jumped in,
he's been incredibly loving to her! A blessing in the deepest
of disguises, I guess.

    Glad to hear everything's alright!
