I have 3 samples of something called Mycodex Pearlescent Grooming Shampoo. I was going to use them during cat baths last night but I noticed on the front of the tube under the title it says "use only as directed". Great...only problem is there aren't any directions on the tube. Does anyone have any of this shampoo with directions attached that can tell me what to do, or not to do? I know Mycodex makes flea shampoos so I was hesitant to go ahead and use this without knowing how I was supposed to use it. I assume by the warning that it may have flea controlling stuff in it too. Can anyone fill me in on this stuff? Jan

You can look them up on the bottle at the show this weekend and see. I think that they put that phrase on them to protect themselves in case a cat has some unusual reactions. Then they can say that the owner didn't "use only as directed". I don't believe that the Pearlescent Grooming shampoo is a flea product. The Mycodex Flea Shampoo that I got samples of said Flea Shampoo on the label. JO

Thanks for reminding me. Gee, I forgot all about checking it out at the show, what a dunce huh. I was going to use this stuff on Carrie and see if it help make her coat shine a little. She's shiney up around her head and shoulders but loses the shine further back. Rathole alert: (also known is slightly straying from the topic) Speaking of bathing Carrie. What a blast. She fought me tooth and nail (I have the sliced finger to prove it) when I tried to clip her nails so I clipped what I could and took a chance on bathing her. Had to keep dodging her paws as she tried to grab onto my clothes and pull herself out of the water. I had to bathe her though, I couldn't bathe my cats and let her run around getting rid of her fleas on my clean show kitties. Boy did I hear it from Bailey when I bathed her this time. Usually she just meows at me pitifully. This time she growled through claw clipping, growled through the bath and growled when I was blow drying her. Unappreciative little feline. I think she was miffed at Carrie for chasing her down the hall in crab mode. Crab mode is pretty cute on little kittens but Carrie is by no means little and is a little more intimidating when she does that. Jan

Re: .3 Well, I forgot to check the bottles at Pro-Vet while I was at the show so I still don't have directions for using the shampoo. If you have the information available please send me the instructions for use. Thanks! Jan

Mycodex Pearlescent Grooming Shampoo was recommended to me by my vet for use on my Maltese dog who has sensitive skin but requires bathing every 10 days (due to the Maltese coat, they require LOTS of grooming). The vet informed me it works especially well for on the "white" coat and he was absolutely correct. I've used the product sucessfully for 3 years now with no skin irritations and he comes out unbelievably white & soft. The only precautions are as follows: It is highly concentrated -- a little goes a long way. I wet the dog "first", then squirt a little on, lather, squirt more on as necessary etc. If you use too much you'll be "rinsing" forever :-) The only precautons are to be careful around the eyes, try to avoid getting the shampoo in the eyes if at all possible. It also states "not to be taken internally" like any product. It also says to rinse the animal thoroughly after washing. My Maltese takes his baths well, so neither of these have been a problem for me. I've never used this product on a cat, however, so I can't comment on the results. Pat |
