| Barney's eyes are ALWAYS goopy... he has something with a long name,
but it basically is chronic conjunctivitis (or pink eye). I have
cortisone drops for him. My other cats do not get this at all,
although sometimes Gonezo's eyes tear. I think both cats have
allergies, Barney's being much worse. I clean his eyes with a cotton
ball and warm water to un-goop them and it works ok.
Good luck. I wouldn't worry too much.

| Kiwi had what I think you are talking about. It is not
conjunctivitis but an injury to the eye which causes that
third eyelid to come down. We applied antiobiotic for a
few days if I remember correctly. It didn't take long
to fix up.

| We've had minor trouble with Isis's eyes and Tym had a runny eye
too for a couple of days. My vet told us to use boric acid and
it cleared up in about 3-4 days. Of course, we may be talking about
different problems here so that's just a guideline.
Did the vet see the cat? I know that the nictating membrane will
be out if the cat is over tired or sick. That's what alerted us
when Isis had anemia.

| Nancy is right, the third eyelid can be an early warning sign of
some other type of illness. Upper respiratory problems are one
of the illnesses that cause the third eyelid to come up.
Conjunctivitis is a symptom, not an illness in itself. It means
inflammation of the conjunctival tissue of the eye.
If you do not notice any improvement in the eyes in a couple days,
the cat should be seen by a vet. Also, if you have a rectal
thermometer you can take her temp. A normal cat's temp will be
between 101-102.5.

| My burmese seem to be susecptable to eye infections and problems
with the 3rd eyelid (cherry eye). The minor problems occur in
much the same situations that my own allergies flare up.
We treat it by cleaning it the eye out with saline and then an
opthalmic antibiotic (usually gentocin). If that doesn't help
by the next day off they go to the vet (which, of course, they
are absolutely thrilled about).
