2478.0. "The Incredible Purring Bed" by HOTAIR::SIMON (Hugs Welcome Anytime!) Wed May 17 1989 12:19
(Bear with me, this becomes cat-related shortly)
I bought a new waterbed last week. While purchasing it, I found
this great gadget called a Somnus. This is a pair of transponders
you place under the waterbed liner and with hand controls, you make
them produce either pulse action or wave action through the waterbed
giving a great massage (beats "magic fingers" any day)! Anyway,
after an initial leak and mattress replacement, the bed was finally
ready for use Saturday.
Now, the old waterbed downstairs has more motion than the new one.
Tarbaby (see, I told you cats would enter into this story) loves
the old bed. Tigger, who is 10 years old, hates the old one and
usually sleeps on the floor nearby. Well, both cats seem to like
the new mattress as it is very firm and waveless. In fact, Tigger
slept on the bed with me for probably the first time in 3 or 4 years.
Anyway, I woke up Sunday morning to find Tigger with me and decided
to not use the massager as it might scare her. A little later,
she jumped off the bed so I decided to use the massager. I decided
to try it in 'wave' mode. Well, Tigger came running, jumped up,
ran to the pillow, curled up and demanded absolute attention. I
turned the massager off and found Tigger purring more audibly than
I can ever remember. Then it dawned on me - the noise of the
transponders in "wave" mode is an intermittent hum (speed is
adjustable). This must make my bed sound like it is happily purring
away. Tarbaby does not seem to like the massager but the mean streak
in me caused me to wait until she was on the bed and unsuspecting
to turn it on. She was not scared but after about 12 seconds decided
she should be elsewhere.
This morning, I turned the massager on and again Tigger came running.
I think she thinks my bed is a relative.
By the way, the massager feels great! After a hard day, you crawl
into bed and it is much more subtle than what you find in a cheap
sleazy hotel. The gentle vibration feels great on the back (Pulse
mode is better than wave so I set the combination for the cat and
I to be happy).

2478.1 | Where can I get one????? | NEBVAX::BELFORTI | DISPATCHING: it's a living(barely) | Wed May 17 1989 13:33 | 7 |
| Where can I get more info on the Somnus???? I have a vibrator on
the bedframe itself.... if is great as you said, for tired muscles,
but have always said to my husband, "Wouldn't it be great to have
something that makes a small wave, it would be much more soothing".
My cats LOVE my waterbed, and I just thank the powers that be, that
they haven't yet learned how to turn the thermostat up or the vibrator
on.... (notice I said YET).

| re: .0 That must be why Bumpy likes the massager so much. - sounds
like its purring. Boy I'd like one of those units for my waterbed
too. Will you send me info too?!
