| S&H have some like you've described. The platform on the top is
a topless box with maybe 6 inch sides, so they can sleep in it
without falling over. They also have one with a box on top, about the
size of a standard cardboard box, with cat-sized holes in the bottom,
top and a couple of sides so they can get inside; the base of this one
is quite wide for stability; if you make one of these be sure there
are enough holes so that if it falls over with a cat inside, there
will always be a hole open so they don't suffocate and can get out.
They also have a twice as tall post with two circular platforms on
it, one mid way one top, with one hole in each so they can swarm up to
the top one; these platforms also have "sleeping sides".
You can really just let your imagination run wild and build.....

| Hi, I am not good with dimensions and such, but my husband has built
most of our cat trees. One tree is 8 feet tall, and has three shelves.
the tree was made with 2x4 wood and splits in the middle so that
it is easier to move. The shelves are also solid wood, not sawboard
like a lot of store bought trees. The tree weighs a ton. The base
of the tree is also solid, and very wide. The tree is covered with
carpet. I will try to draw if for you:

The top shelf has a whole in the top so the cats can go through
the whole to get up there.
We have another tree that is about 4 feet tall and shaped like a
letter Z. The slanted part will be covered in sisal rope, and the shelf
will be covered with carpet. Right now it is bare wood and the
cats like it pretty well. We also have a couple that are just a
post going straight up from a solid base, about 3 feet high, and
they love those too.
Hope this gives you some ideas.

| I've no idea how good this is, but there was an ad in my April 'Cat
World':
"Make your own cat scratch post with an easy-to-follow plan. Send
one pound 60 incl p&p to Designs by Debbie, 89 Lutton Grove, Westwood,
Peterborough, Cambs PE3 7DY".

Thanks Shayne... I actually had that magazine, but didn't see the Ad.
I have sent off for the plans, and also for brochures from some of the
other advertisers (eg cat furniture suppliers) in Cat World.

| Well, New Zealand is further away from England than California is,
so I'm sure you can! It's written in English (not American :-)).
Here is the address for subscriptions:
Cat World Ltd
10 Western Road
Shoreham by Sea
West Sussex
BN4 5WD
ENGLAND
Overseas rates for 12 issues (sent airmail - mine get here really
fast): #21.60 for Cat World only, #27.60 for Cat World plus Show
World, which has info on British show results and a stud directory
by breed. The # stands for British pounds, my PC won't do them. Cat
world is a good mag, I enjoy it a lot. I'm sure you can get a bank
draft in pounds from your bank, that's how I pay for it. It costs
a couple of dollars extra for the bank fee.
