| Elaine, congratulations and welcome to the world of people who have
cattery names! Hope you get your first choice, and that both CFA
and CFF agree on the same name!
Tiger Lily sounds like a great kitty. I thought I had noticed that
the NO VACANCY sign hadn't been hanging out lately. Glad you could
make room for Lil. And of course, you will have to have room to
keep one of her incredible offspring!

| That's wonderful news, Elaine! Your inn is getting fuller by the
day!! Time to build on a new addition.
I saw Tiger Lily, too, and she is one sweet little baby (then again,
all Cin's cats are sweet and adorable -- I live next door to one!!).
Hope we'll be the first to see an announcment of Tiger Lily's first
litter of kittens.
Congratulations to you and Tiger!

2441.5 | My cat SWIMS ! | PENPAL::TRACHMAN | ExoticSH=Persian in Underwear | Tue May 09 1989 11:56 | 37 |

Jo, you are right about that - I really wouldn't have - I just wanted
time to think and make sure it's what I really wanted to do. I've
been thinking about it for a very long time and after I met Lil,
I really didn't have any doubt. She is really something! All Cin's
cats are great. I'm not sure how Cin feels about being a Grandma,
but I love being a new mom!!
Thanks everyone! I'm just so excited - this little lady is
really something else. She has a purrsonality that doesn't
quit! I wish I could bottle it - at least, reproduce it!
As to the cattery name, the four CFA choices I requested -
any of the four will be fine cause I may not get my first
choice.
You know the saying, "learn something new every day" - well,
last night at about midnight, I learned that an Exotic Shorthair
kitten could SWIM. Yes, SWIM. I was standing in the "full" tub
just about to sit in the "full" tub of water when i looked down,
and who had jumped in with me (on purpose - she did NOT fall in)
was Lil - she swam from one end of the tub to the other and was
very angry when I picked her up and gave her a quick rub with a
towel and put her on the floor. At first I thought she was
walking along the bottom, but then I realized when I dried her
off that ONLY her belly hair and feet were wet, and the underside
of her tail - the tub was filled to about 3 inches from the top.
That silly monkey was swimming. most amazing thing I'd ever seen.
Funny, after she dried, her coat is so nice, you wouldn't ever know
that she had been wet underneath! Boy, talk about a lazy person's
Persian! No Grooming necessary - just drip dry - no matting - it's
really wonderful!
Stay tuned for more Lil stories - I have a feeling there will be
a few - guess I'd better keep my camera loaded!

2441.6 | Charlie makes '18' | PENPAL::TRACHMAN | ExoticSH=Persian in Underwear | Tue May 09 1989 12:23 | 27 |
| Welllll. The truth be told ah, hem, how does 18 sound??
And then there is Charlie.....
Charlie has been wandering around my land for quite a while - an
unneutered male about 2 years old doing what he shouldn't to my
screens! Wellll, last Thursday after work, Charlie was around -
I ran down to the cattery and grabbed a pan full of crunchies
ran upstairs - Charlie was still there - I kept throwing him
one piece at a time closer and closer (oh yeah, I grabbed
a carrier also) and then put the pan in the carrier - well,
Charlie was hungry - he came right up to the porch, found
the pan, which was at the back of the carrier - I gave his
bum a push, and the rest is history! Charlie spent Thursday
night in a large cage in my garage, with plenty of food, water,
litter pan, and a warm bed, then Friday morning we went off to
my vet - Charlie is no long unneutered! He had to stay at the
Vet's for a couple of days until his leukemia test came back,
NEGATIVE !!!) and he is VERY healthy - he had one bath, but will
need one or two more, which he will get this weekend, well to
make a long story short, Charlie has taken up residence at the Inn.
He is sweeter than sugar with big green eyes - the only thing is
that he will HAVE to be kept indoors so he won't wander and get
hurt - I think he likes the idea of regular canned food!
Oh, he's mostly white with mackeral tabby - a pretty boy!

2441.8 | | CIRCUS::KOLLING | Karen, Sweetie, & Holly; in Calif. | Tue May 09 1989 15:15 | 6 |
| ET, did you not have to "starve" him the night before he
was altered, because of the anesthetic? I ask because I'm thinking
about kidnapping a neglected neighborhood puss for a trip to the
vet, and it would be easier if I didn't have to put him and me
thru the no food the night before thing.

2441.9 | Yes, after 9 pm - I cheated a little - he was hungry | PENPAL::TRACHMAN | ExoticSH=Persian in Underwear | Tue May 09 1989 15:28 | 26 |
| Well, the poor thing was so hungry when I nabbed him (which was
about 7:30 pm) that I did load him up with OMH canned and a small
bowl of Iams and water. I let him keep the food until about 9 pm,
then removed everything except the water. We landed at the Vet's
at about 9 am, 12 hours later. As it turned out, the surgery
didn't take place until 4 pm Friday, so it turned out very well.
Some vets will say nothing after 8 pm or 12 pm. If their surgery
hours are in the morning, it's nothing after 6 or 8 pm - if they
have office hours in the morning, they let you feed until 12 pm.
Boy, I was real glad to have this guy done - I still don't know
how I am going to clean one of my windows - I guess I will have
to take the storm frame off from the outside to get to the glass
that got "it." I'm glad he will be on the inside now - my windows
flop out to be cleaned (I call them Jamie Farr windows - he does
the adds for them) !!
Anyhoo, maybe your vet does afternoon surgery one day a week or
something - then you won't have to starve him. They always can
have water now - my problem has always been if I have to starve
one - they all had to starve - I don't cage my cats. A couple
of times I sent two in together the night before - Misha and
Pashenka went together and stayed in the same cage to keep each
other company - that worked well - they starved in the vet's office!
It sure is the lazy way out!

2441.10 | This way I get to sleep the night before | WITNES::HANNULA | Well, you see, I have this cat....... | Tue May 09 1989 15:32 | 7 |
| My vet has never asked me to starve them the night before. He just
says preferably No Breakfast, but if that's ont possible, just a
little breakfast. I drop off in the AM, around 8:00, but the vet
doesn't do surgery until about noon time, so I guess that gives
enough time to get most of the digestion done.

| My vet has his surgery in the am, that's the problem, so I have
hungry pusses from 7 pm on. Good evening to go to a movie.....

2441.12 | | VAXWRK::SKALTSIS | Deb | Tue May 09 1989 17:25 | 7 |
| With both Niky and Spiro, I fed them an early supper and then brought them
in the night before for general checkups, etc, and they stayed the night.
surgery was done in the AM, and, Spiro came home that afternoon (and
pigged out). Niky had to stay overnight because he had a badly
infected wound and they wanted to observe him a bit longer.

2441.13 | The fact is.. | DRFIX::IVES | I'm my own Persian | Wed May 10 1989 13:38 | 9 |
| The reason they don't want you to feed the cat is the anesthesia
might make it sick and it would throw up and being unconscious
the cat would choke on it's own vomit. Real safety precaution.
To me it is always better to follow the vets instuctions as he is
doing it for the animals benefit, not the convenience or inconvenience
of me.
