2399.0. "66 cats available for adoption ;-)" by GLINKA::GREENE (Cat Lady) Mon Apr 24 1989 13:15

66 COOPED-UP CATS
   AND ALL THAT IMPLIES

Jersey City, April 22 (AP) --
One litter box was obviously not
enough for 66 cats.
   After neighbors complained of a
foul odor coming from a second-floor
condominium, officials from the city
Animal Control Division and the
Health Department inspected the
apartment Friday and discovered the
cats.
"I smelled the odor as I came up
the stairs," said a Health Department
Inspector, H. James Boor. "I opened
the door a crack and saw 30 cats wan-
dering around. Then I radioed for
help."
Workers used nets and snare poles
to remove the cats from beneath
beds, in tubs and sinks and on ledges
in the apartment, Mr. Boor said. He
said there was one litter box in the
apartment and "there was feces
everywhere."
Mr. Boor said the cats included
long-haired Persians and red-haired
ones. They would be kept at an ani-
mal shelter until the owner is found.
If the owner is not found, they will be
offered to the public, he said.
"It would be a shame to see all
these beautiful animals killed," Mr.
Boor said.

How awful!! Those poor kitties don't deserve living
conditions like that!! I hope they find the owner,
and don't let him/her have the kitties back!! But
I do hope they can find folks who will give them loving
homes and a clean litter box!!
