I went there, ran into some friends who I did not know were
involved with the shelter, won the raffle (an assortment of
kitty stuff), and...

...put in an application to adopt a new furry friend!! A really
nice tortiose-shell and white female, very friendly and affectionate,
turned over to Animal Orphanage as a stray and named "Swizzle" by
the staff there. It'sd to believe anyone would abandon a cat
like this, but the A.O. people tell me that she has had a tough
time of it. I'm setting up a vet appointment to do check Swizzle
out and do a feline leuk. test, if everything check out OK I hope
to take her home by next weekend.

That's great news Bob! I was hoping you'd make it to the celebration.
Let us know how little Swizzle makes out!

Taking Swizzle to the vet tomorrow night (Tuesday) for checkup,
then have to wait for results of the Feline Leukemia test. The
shelter tells me there are two kinds of tests, the Slow Test (2 weeks
for results) and the Fast Test (1 day for results) and that I should
ask for the fast one.

I will also be adopting another kitty from friends of a friend
who feel they "have to" get rid of their cat due to expecting
a baby.

Someone in my office gave me a newsletter from an organization
called "American Society for the Welfare of Cats" -- does
anyone know anything about them? They are based here in
Southern NJ, I've never heard of them before. According to
the newsletter they are running a large no-kill shelter housing
over 120 cats and have never put a cat "to sleep." (Feline
leuk. patients are kept in a separate area.)
