| I have had this problem and found that the only solution was to
trim the "pantaloons" so that they were less likely to get stuck
in the "business".
Also, I gave the cat lots of petromalt since I thought maybe his
"business" was stickier than normal and the petromalt might loosen
things up a bit.

| I also trim the hair back there, since my cat Nutmeg is
a real fluff ball. 3 times a year we shave both cats because
the hairball problems are so severe that Pounce lost 2 lbs
from being sick all the time (laxotone did not help). Because
we shave them, they don't shed and seem a lot healthier.
They also love it in the summer time which can be terrible
for long haired cats. The vet told me that if the backend
does not get cleaned up, some cats can develop bad infections.
So watch out for this.
Also, Nutmeg had a problem with a smaller litter box. One
day she was a little kitty, the next day a big furry cat.
She would unintentionally hang her butt over the side causing
problems. So I got a 25 lb cat litter box that solved that problem.

Hi Karen,
I have a Persian and am familar with your problem. My cat
is an absolute brat when it comes to being groomed. He does not
like to get his backside or stomach done.
When I take him in to have him groomed I have his stomach
and in between his hind legs shaved. This seems to solve the problem.
No mats and no "unmentionables."

I'm keeping my eyes open for another large litter box, and am eyeing
Max's rear for some trimming. He really does have a lot of fur back
there! Hopefully that will help.

| Hi
Ming has very fuzzy "pantaloons" and the vet said we should be sure
and keep that area short for her. We keep it clipped pretty short but
would love to be able to run her into the vets office every now and
then and have them use the clippers on it. One pass and it's done.
I would love to know how the show cat make out with this or I should
say their owers. They always look so "groomed" when you see them at
the shows.
Our litter box has certainly helped. It belonged to my daughter and it
must be 3 feet long and 2 1/2 wide. Takes lots of litter which they
love, and I must admit it stays cleaner longer.

| The show cats just have some crazed human running around behind
them with a big wad of tissue!
Some of my Birmans have enough coat to have this be a problem.
