2370.1 | put your note in classified ad and small animal | RETORT::BREDA | | Wed Apr 12 1989 13:25 | 10 |
| Hi,
I'm afraid I have a large brood of my own so I can't take Jake and
Munchie - but I wanted to suggest that you put your note in the
classified ads and small animals note file. I have had decent
response on finding pets homes from those two files.
Good Luck,
Kathy

2370.2 | How about Northboro? | SUCCES::PEAKE | | Wed Apr 12 1989 13:26 | 21 |
| Would you consider Northboro? I used to live at Oakwood Terrace
on Route 20. The Landlord is Jose Garcia. He lets people have
cats, (at least they did when I lived there.) The only thing
he would not let you have is a piano. I think 2 well behaved
indoor cats would be okay, I hope.
You can reach him at Garcia Realty, Southwest Cutoff (Rt 20)
(508) 393-6233. He has other apartments in Northboro. I don't
know if pets allowed there, but I know I saw several cats when
I lived at Oakwood. The old fella underneath us had a 20 lb double
pawed cat named Patches and I could hear him tell Patches to
stop playing with his face?!... Why don't you give him a call.
Jose used to work at Digital. He's okay for landlords. I don't
know if he has vacancies, but it's worth a try. And also, the
rent was cheaper at this place than other places we looked at.
Maybe that's still true. Don't give up your cats yet.
Good luck!

Northboro is a nice town.
I live in the next town over. Quiet, and pretty much accesible
to all major routes..
15 min or so from Worcester..
40 or so min to Boston..

2370.4 | don't give up your cats!! | FRAGLE::PELUSO | | Wed Apr 12 1989 15:09 | 2 |
| I think Shrewsbury Commons allows cats too (a friend has a condo
there and he had a cat when he lived there).

| My mother looked at Shrewsbury Commons about 5 or 6 years ago and at
that time, their policy was NO PETS. There was no way she'd part with
Sam (now 17). Maybe they've changed their policy since then.. hope so.
Good luck in finding a place. We have 3 cats already which my husband
is allergic to (love me, love my cats... :-) ). I don't know anywhere
to suggest you look. Maybe finding an apartment in a house might be a
way to go.

2370.6 | Keep trying! | CIMNET::PRIESTLEY | | Fri Apr 14 1989 11:43 | 10 |
| It took me several weeks of calling every "For Rent" ad that didn't
say "NO PETS" in the paper, and visiting over 15 of them (I found
that many places that allowed pets did so because they couldn't
possibly do more damage than was already done) but I did find a
place that I could afford that will take my cats.
Keep trying--there are lots of places out there, you just have to
check out all of them, and it does take time!

2370.7 | Pointers to other conferences for roommate/apartment searching | ATSE::BLOCK | With a mind of magic & a magical mind | Fri Apr 14 1989 12:01 | 14 |
| The following conferences allow ads both for apartments (available
and looking), and for roommates:
TECHNO::CLASSIFIED_ADS (often busy --
try after 5:00 PM East Coast time)
TALLIS::REAL_ESTATE
ANARCY::ROOMMATES
Note that C_A has a topic where all "Wanted" ads go, and R_E has
one topic for all ads. It's strongly advised that you read topic
1 before posting anything.
Good luck!

Heres another suggestion..
Call the ads that even say "No Pets". I've done this before.. and
if you explain to them that you noticed it said that, but you have
X number of cats that are fixed, with all shots, they don't spray,
you aren't having kittens, etc. etc.
Many landlords put that in the paper because they really don't want
any dogs, and will consent to a cat sometimes..

| I agree, as far as the "NO Pets" ads. The three apartments that
I lived in all were "No Pets", but when I talked with the renter,
they accepted me and my cats....all 5 of them, whole and all!
And I had kittens periodically, too!

2370.10 | Try - all they can do is say no and they might say YES | PENPAL::TRACHMAN | | Fri Apr 14 1989 16:41 | 6 |
| Me too - a few of the no-pet landlords liked my cats better than
my very young daughter, who was not the most tidy child!!
You don't know unless ya try...

2370.11 | Update with Good News | DELNI::MOSHER | cyclone | Thu Apr 20 1989 18:00 | 35 |
| Hi all,
Thanks for the many replies and the good advice! (Both from
people who replied to this note as well as those who sent
me E-mail).
I'm pleased to tell everyone that I met two women (in potential
house/share situations) who were willing to take the cats. One
of them through a friend, one of them through this note. I met
both over last weekend and decided to move in with the one who
was referred by a friend (well, 90% sure I'm moving in, we just
have to work out the final details of the move!).
She seems really nice, has a great (spacious) 3-level townhouse on
the Lancaster/leominster border. The complex allows cats, there
are several neighboring cats as playmates, and this woman (my
upcoming roommate) used to live in an apt. with ***8*** cats,
so getting used to Jake and Munchie should be no problem (I think
Jake's charming personality and antics will win her over!!)
I love the layout of the place (for me) and it is near woods
(maybe i'll let the cats out or at least walk them sometimes).
We agreed that the cats will stay in the basement of the townhouse
when no one is at home (but they have a glass "wall" of windows
to watch the birds all day, when theyre not sleeping!...it's a
ground-level basement)...and they will have the run of the house,
pending good behavior, when one of us is at home.
So THANKS!!!!! so much for all your help and suggestions!!
It was nice, even when people wrote and couldnt help, just to
know how much all of you cared. I'll try to pay back the
favor by helping someone else in need if I ever get the chance....

| Robyn that is great news! I am glad that the Feline network was
able to help you find a place so that you wouldn't be faced with
giving up your beloved pets. And a legal place at that! I did
a few years of time sneaking my cats in and out of rental places
and it is no fun. Good luck to the three of you and the new roommate.
