       ANGELL MEMORIAL TO HOST BLOOD DRIVE FOR ANIMALS

       BOSTON- On Sunday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the MPSCA's
       Angell Memorial Animal Hospital will stage the first public
       "Blood Donor Drive for Pets."

       Pet owners are needed to volunteer their healthy dogs and cats to
       help victim of trauma and other life-threatening medical
       conditions afflicting animal patients.

       Pet owners can volunteer their dog or cat if the animal meets
       certain health and temperament requirements and only after the
       pet passes a complete medical exam, which will be offered free to
       participants and includes heartworm testing for dogs and feline
       leukemia testing for cats.

       To qualify, donor dogs and cats must be between the ages of six
       months and eight years.  Dogs must weigh at least 50 pounds and
       cats must weigh more than eight pounds.

       The drive will be held at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital, 350
       South Huntington Avenue, Jamaica Plain.  Free parking is
       available.  

       All donor pets must be pre-registered.  For more information or
       to register your pet, call the MSPCA at (617) 522-6005 weekdays.
