2225.0. "my Candy and Spooky" by UTROP2::RUSIUS_L () Tue Feb 14 1989 09:14

    Hi you cat lovers,

I'm reading this notes conference for quite some time now, but never
had the courage to write in it, altough i'm a real cat-lover, and
    have to of them myself.
I was afraid that my English wasn't good enough (i'm Dutch you see),
because while reading the notes i sometimes read some words i never
    saw before.

Like i said before, i have two cats known as Candy en Spooky.
Candy is about two years old now and very afraid of other cats when
se goes outside. I took her as company for my other cat because
i'm not at home so often. But the other cat (Rambo) has gone away which
still hurts when i think about it, because i don't know what happened
to him. And may-be he was in pain and needed me. But that has happened
one and a half year ago, so he is proberbly dead or has found (as
i say to myself) another good home. So after a year i picked-up
Candy, and tough they are both from a different fammily in different
cities, they look very much alike which is realy nice (black with
    red spots).
Spooky is 6 months now and a very wild kitten. (She doesn't go outside
yet). Also very sweet not as sweet as Candy, but i love them both
    very much.

    But now my question:
Spooky likes to attack Candy when she has i wild mood (?), but that
scares Candy so much, that she starts to spit at Spooky and sometimes
hits her, and then she runs away. Even if Spooky justs comes near
Candy, Candy starts to spit at her (i feel so sorry for Spooky,
she just wants to play). So because of that i loose a little
touch with Candy because every time she's on my lap, Spooky wants
to do that as well, but then Candy walks (runs) away. I try to pay
a little extra attention to her, but as soon as Spooky sees that
she comes aswell, and you can guess wath Candy does then (walk away).
Two weeks ago Candy was a sleep on my bed, and for the first time
i saw Spooky lying next to her looking around so satisfied. This
made me so happy, and i hoped that from then on they would be able
to get along a little better, but that wasn't so, altough Candy
stars playing again, and sometime lets Spooky join her game aswell.

Is there anyting i can do to make them get allong a bit better???
It sometimes makes me feel very sad to see Spooky trying so hard,
and Candy being so afraid and walking away everytime she's comfortable.

    Bye

    Loes, Candy and Spooky.

Hello and welcome to our feline loving group! Your english was
fine, I could understand just fine. When do the tulips bloom
in your country? How wonderful it must be to see all those gorgeous
    gardens in bloom!
There are many notes in this file relating to the many situations
involving kitties getting along together. Sometimes, especially
when they are young, it can be challenging, but you can best believe
they will be fine. They will play together and the play can seem
rough sometimes, but I've found that no matter how diverse the
cats' personalities are, they always end up being friends, or at
least living together peacefully. Just don't get upset and tense
when they get "rough", they can sense if you are getting upset too.
I usually said to my 2 "girls", "Ladiesssss, now stop that!" I
think they could understand the tone of my voice and stopped their
arguements. They eventually grew out of it.
Soon, you'll be trying to fit all your cats on your lap at one
time, which is tough if you have a small lap, but they manage.
Just don't do it in a reclining chair, or the whole chair and
cats and you will tip over backwards!!

                                        Have fun!
                                               Denise

Spooky is still so young and playfull. Candy is a grown up
sophisticated cat. It must be hard for Candy to adapt to having
such a wild little kitten around. As Spooky grows up and leaves
his kitten antics behind, Candy will probably appreciate Spooky
a little more. You will probably have to wait until Spooky is almost
    a year old.

I had the same problem adding a kitten to our household. Now that
the kitten is growing up, and becoming more mature, our older cat
has stopped beating up on the kitten as much.

    Good luck.

Dag Loes, and hello cat lovers.

I am also new to the feline notes, but have read and enjoyed them
all. I have two cats, BEAR and DROPJE (Dutch for licorice).

BEAR is a 16 year old (large) English Blue and as soppy as you can find.
He loves wrapping himself round you and getting up and begging with
his paw to be brushed. Once that is achieved, his purr has to be
    heard to be believed.

DROPJE is the lady of the family. She is the dainty one and loves
having a lot of attention. For instance, 3.00am she will gently
push and prod her way down my front (or back) to get into the bed.
Once ensconced, she is there for the duration. She will not stand
for any nonsense from Bear and will stand up for herself.

Have fun with Spooky and Candy.

    Tot ziens

The tulips bloom in April and it sure is nice to see. I hope you
don't think we're walking on wooden shoes.

Thanks for the replies, can you give me the notes nrs. that discus this
problem. Athough it's going much better now, they really start playing
now. This is since I went away for a weekend, so they didn't get
much attention during that time. (my neighbour looked after them).
Now if I don't look and don't interupt (by walking or something)
they keep playing. Thank god Candy becomes like she was before I
got Spooky. (she was and starts to become again such a nice and
always in a good mood jolly cat.

Elly, where did you learn you're Dutch (or are you Dutch), it was
a nice suprice to read some Dutch word's.

    Hi Loes,

Sorry that it has taken so long to reply, but I have been back to
my native Scotland to get married.

My Dutch is very rusty, especially in the written form but I'll
try so bear with me. Ik wont (wonnen) dichbje Den Haag, Voorschoten
for five jaar. Ik singen met The English Choir van het Nederlands,
in The British School. Sorry, I will have to continue in English.
My children were educated in the Dutch system and Gary got his 'O'
level in Dutch when we came back.

If you would like to correspond, I am on DTN 7849 3439 @USH.
