2204.0. "Chaperone needed San Jose area to Boston area" by YOSMTE::CORDESBRO_JO () Fri Feb 03 1989 18:26

    I am looking for anyone who might be traveling between San Jose,
    Santa Clara, or San Francisco, California and Boston (Logan Airport)
    or New Hampshire between the end of February and the middle of March.

    Reason, a fellow Deccie living in NH is now the proud new owner
    of two beautiful Birman kittens and we are running into snags getting
    them shipped out to her. The weather is a factor if they are shipped
    unaccompanied, air cargo. If they go on a passenger flight, they
    are not subject to temperature restrictions.

    The shipping fee would be paid for in advance, and the person would
    not have to do anything with the kittens, just pose as chaperone.

    If anyone can help us, or knows someone who can, please let me know
    either here or via mail.

    Thanks in advance, I hope someone can help us.

2204.2You were here and didn't stop and say hello?!YOSMTE::CORDESBRO_JOFri Feb 03 1989 19:4912
    Thanks for the input but the kittens were too young this week to
    leave home. They will receive their final vaccinations on the 22nd
    of February so they can't leave til at least then. I usually don't
    let them go until the are four months old, in this case that would
    be March 7th, but in this case we can make an exception if someone
    can take them out.

    The new owners are quite anxious to have them even if I am not that
    anxious to let them go!

    Hi Jo,

    I might be out that way then. I'll let you know as plans firm up, but
    right now, it looks like the 2nd week in March.

    Of course, I might fall in love and kitnap them!!

    Mary you are a God send! I would feel so much better having them
    travel with you. We haven't been able to find them any non-stop
    flights, and even if we do, we won't know til the morning of the
    flight if the weather will be okay to ship them.

    Let me know as soon as you are sure of your plans.

    Jo will have to let me know if I am doing this right---my first

    I am the presently-under-contract, but soon to be owner of one of
    Jo's kittens, and my husband is the other.

    I am the one who should be buying Mary lunch--we got it covered

    Congratulations, Anne! One of my Birman babies is a daughter of
    Jo's Kalliste ...and I can testify as to how beautiful, funny, loving
    and silly his kittens really are! You're in for a lot of fun. But,
    beware. Those little babes are gonna' twist you right around their
    little paws!

    in hearing if you will be out here the second week of March. Lizzie

    I keep checking this file to see if there are any more potential
    chaperones. Surprised to see two more entries in this note! You
    just may be the "chosen chaperone" -- but no more talk of kitnapping
    the little mites.

    Wha' d' ya mean START getting excited. I've been up there since
    before the delivery date in November. Almost (note ALMOST) as anxious
    and excited as having my own children. I mean the entire neighborhood
    is even waiting to see these new additions to the family.........

2204.13Another Chaperone neededYOSMTE::CORDESBRO_JOMon Mar 06 1989 12:429
    I might as well throw this one out there just to see what the response
    might be. I may be needing a chaperone for two cats from the San
    Jose/San Francisco area to the New Jersey area. There is no time
    limit on this one. If you or someone you know might be making a
    trip like this, please let me know.

    (I got lucky the first time, maybe I will get lucky this time too!)

2204.14I really do need a chaperone nowYOSMTE::CORDESBRO_JOTue Mar 14 1989 19:1514
    I am definitely in need of a chaperone for two cats between the
    San Jose/San Francisco area and either Philadelphia or Newark NJ.

    Bob Alpert and I have been talking about the possibility of him
    adopting two of my adult cats, and we are trying to find a way for
    him to get them. Air cargo is an option, but neither Bob or I can
    afford it right now due to both of our large vet bills after the
    deaths of our cats. If the cats were escorted, the cost would be
    only $50.00 per cat, and that would be more manageable.

    If anyone knows anyone who might be able to help us out here, please
    have them contact me or Bob.

    Jo - the people in my group travel frequently. I'll check around
    and see if anybody is going that route (they don't always fly right
    back into Boston from CA).

    If you don't mind me asking, are you adopting two of your adult
    Birmans or household pets?

2204.16YOSMTE::CORDESBRO_JOWed Mar 15 1989 12:146
    I don't mind you asking...Bob is considering adopting Monroe and
    Winston, two of my household pets.

    Thanks for keeping an eye open for us.

2204.17FSHQA2::RWAXMANA Cat Makes a Purrfect FriendWed Mar 15 1989 12:216
    Thanks, Jo. I'm surprised to hear that! Never thought you would
    ever consider that possibility cause they've been with you for so
    long!!

    Will ask around here and see what travel plans are in process.

2204.18The most difficult decision I've ever madeYOSMTE::CORDESBRO_JOWed Mar 15 1989 12:4215
    I never thought I would consider the possibility either, but I have
    to do what is best for Monroe and Winston.

    For awhile now, Ken and I have been aware that M and W didn't seem
    as happy as they once were. They do not seem to care for the
    increased numbers of cats in our house. They are also not too
    crazy about disrespectful kittens that chase their tails and chew
    on their ears.

    This has been doubly hard for me, what with having just lost my
    beloved Jesse and Momma Kitty. I almost decided not to go through
    with it. But, I have to do what is best by them, and that is to
    place them with Bob. I wouldn't let them go to just anyone.

    Jo
2204.19I'll listen, too.REDWOD::GRAFTONWed Mar 15 1989 19:339
    Jo,

    I'll keep my ears open, too, for anyone who might be going to Boston
    for classes or such. A lot of people in this building travel; maybe
    we'll be able to find someone relatively quickly. Did you have a
    deadline in mind or just as soon as possible?

    Jill and Roberta,

    Thanks for the help. There is no deadline in mind, the sooner the
    better for Bob, the later the better for me (boo hoo :^()

    This really is the best thing for Monroe and Winston.

2204.22long-distance adoptionCHOVAX::ALPERTAgent of GoldsteinThu Mar 16 1989 13:0316
Yes, Jo Ann and I have been talking about this for some time now.
I've also been tring to find a chaperone, no luck as of yet.

I was a little reluctant at first because of the distance, but
after seeing the pictures and hearing about them both I'm hooked!
Also Monroe and Winston are reported to be real buddies which is
why I'm looking at adopting both (it would be a real shame to
break them up as well as make a major change in their environment).

How Boson will react to 2 new kitties in *her* house is anyone's
guess, but since she definitely misses Tiger I'm hoping it won't
be too bad. (When I originally brought Tiger home, Boson had
an immediate and extreme negative reaction but within a couple of
weeks things settled down and they tolerated each other.)

    Mary, if you are reading notes and see this, I have been trying
    to reach you by mail, but cannot. I need to firm up some plans
    for Lizzie and Lindy. The are scheduled for their "exit interview"
    with the vet on Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM my time. Send mail

    Well, Lizzie and Lindy boarded the plane with Mary last night and
    now I am anxiously awaiting a call from either Anne or Mary to tell
    me that everything is O.K. and that my babies are safely in Anne's
    arms.

    The flight was due in Boston at 8:05 AM, that was over 3 hours ago!

    Come on guys, I really need to hear how this went. Did they sip
    champagne and snack on caviar up there in first class all night?
    Or did they howl and cry and keep Mary awake all night?

    Enquiring minds want to know.

    Oh, I thought I was answering this note....just have been the jet lag!

    They very much enjoyed their seats in first class, even tho' they
    thought the caviar was a bit strong. The poached salmon was more to
    their liking, especially with a bit of cognac after dinner.

    I wonder which of us is more tired today.....

2204.28I hope you are noting from home, in bedYOSMTE::CORDESBRO_JOFri Mar 24 1989 19:1120
    Mary, I can't thank you enough for making their transition into
    their new home as stress free as possible. I finally did reach
    Anne, (after an agonizing morning of wondering how things were going)
    and the "kids" are doing great. Seems they don't miss me at all!!
    :^( Too busy discovering stairs and other great things at Anne
    and Henry's house!

    Anne says they aren't showing any signs of stress at all, and are
    even eating already! She also says that Lizzie arrived soaking wet
    and Lindy had a sheepish grin on his face. (for those of you who
    don't know, Lindy likes to "nurse" on sister Lizzie, he makes her
    look like she has dreadlocks all over her coat.)

    I miss them terribly, (especially Lindy nursing on my hair all night)
    but I know that they have a wonderful home with Anne and Henry and
    their family.

    Thanks again,
