2144.0. "Is it real or...?" by VAXWRK::SIMON (Hugs Welcome Anytime!) Mon Jan 16 1989 13:39

Well, it's time for another cute kitty story:

I own the stupidest cat that has ever been born (to date). I love her
dearly but she is not too bright. She is, however, a good cuddler.
    I'll get back to her.

This Friday, I'm relocating (and taking the cats with me) and until
last week, I had sold my house. If anyone is looking for a cheap house
in the town of Webster in a neighborhood ideal for cats... you know
where to find me. My buyer backed out and a realtor is currently
showing the house. This will come into play later.

Last Friday, Friday the 13th was my going away party. I got some
great stuff. One of the things I got was a ceramic cat. The cat
is white with a floral design. It is lying down and looking up.
    Back to this shortly.

Here's where this all ties together:

I went home Friday night and decided to put the ceramic cat on the tile
hearth under the wood stove as I thought it would be a nice touch as
the realtor brought someone through the house. Tarbaby (this is my
not-so-bright cat) was standing next to me when I took this item out
of the box and placed it on the floor. This is where it gets fun.
Tarbaby, walked to about a foot away from the ceramic cat, hissed and
arched her back. At this point, Gary (a friend of mine) and I were
across the room in stitches. So, Tarbaby, still upset, walked around
to sniff the rear end of the cat. Gary and I totally lost it. I
reassured Tarbaby we weren't laughing with her but at her and gave her
a big hug. She purred because she really is a happy cat (and she knew
we weren't showing favoratism toward that other cat) but ever since,
she has been giving the ceramic cat a wide berth.

Tigger and Einstein have not given the ceramic cat any attention.

My mom was given a stuffed, goofy-looking cat for her birthday
one year and boy was her cat ever surprised the next time he went
to jump up onto her bed and found the goofy-looking kitty lying
there in his place. It was hilarious!!!!!!!! He stopped dead in
his tracks, tail fuzzed up, and snuck up on him. We all were just
about rolling on the floor we were laughing so hard.

    That was adorable.............

Where are you locating to??? I hope we won't lose you and your
    furry feline friends.

Sorry about the buyer backing out.

    Keep in touch....

P.S. Tarbab isn't stupid. She knows what gets hugs and kisses....

Animals recognize differences in their territories!!

A couple of years back I built this neat snowman right after the first
snowfall....I had to destroy it!! My dogs went absolutely berserk when
they saw it!! It must have looked like the abominable snowman to them,
and they would LOOK at it, the hair would stand up on their necks and
the HOWWWWWWLLLLINNGGG would start....and they were ANGRY, FEARFUL
    sounds!!

My cats have reacted to numerous stuffed and ceramic cats, including
a cat silouette with marbles for eyes that was supposed to go in
the back yard. One afternoon I was bringing Isis in off her leash
and she spied the new addition to the backyard. Well, the hair
went up and she raced over to face this new threat. Boy was she
surprized! And Dundee has checked out both ends off all my new
    stuffed cats. Silly bittens!
2144.5bark, bark, bark!SALEM::DEFRANCO_JTue Jan 17 1989 09:0011
This has nothing to do with cats, but years ago I had this little
dog that would bark at anything new in the house.

Buy a new vase, she would bark! Get a new throw pillow, she would
bark. Get new curtains, she would bark! I mean this dog would
bark at ANYTHING new! She was a bit off the wall but she was alot
    of fun!

I was reading a magazine with a picture of a seal point on the
cover. Snowy came up to me, saw the cat on the cover, got scared
and attacked the magazine. It was pretty funny.

2144.7It's All Done With MirrorsHOCUS::DUNAIEFTue Jan 17 1989 13:3420
When my two were 3 month old kittens I took them with me one time
to my parents home. One month previous to that visit my brother
had his three there, well the scent of the other cats was still
in the house and my two kept looking around for the other cats that
were in the house. They found the other cats they were looking
for in the full length mirror!

Then the hissing and arched backs started as well as a strang leaping
backwards. During these backward leaps they tended to collide with
each other. This little scene went on for a while and several times
    afterwards.

After I had gotten them back home, Sullivan had (for a short time
anyway) become a mirror boxer, always ending the bout looking behind
the mirror (it's on a door) for the playmate in the mirror.

They do manage to find many ways to amuse me, but the mirror
    unfortunately gets ignored.
