I have a strange question. I have a female cat - we got her from our local humane society in May. She was "8 weeks old" then. Around 7 months she went into heat. She had all the characteristics of a cat in heat anyway. This happened one more time and then it stopped. She is an indoor/outdoor kitty. I've read previous notes about how to tell if she's "in the family way" and about getting her fixed because there are enough cats in the world....that is not what I want to hear/see. I want to know if her behavior or lack thereof is any indication of anything. Nothing else has changed - appetite, friendliness, potty habits, etc. Do I have a "frigid" cat???? (I know that's not true, but it is funny...) I do NOT believe she is pregnant. There is a neighborhood bully cat who really gives her a hard time when she goes out. It (I'll call it "it" because I never got close enough to know anything about it) fights with her and is real nasty. Usually after we hear them going around in the yard, she comes running in with feces all over her backside. The bully is disgusting. The first time it happened I figured she probably is pregnant - but if she were we would have seen babies by now. I will get her fixed as soon as we can - we have limited her going out (only when she runs out). Anyone with similar situations or even past experience - please give me some insight.... Thanks --sandy

I sure knew when Meggie was in heat! She drove me NUTS! It's possible that she doesn't find the fellow to be 'her cup of tea' and is fighting off his advances. Mating is not a particularly fun time for the female and she might be trying to fight him off. He will try to 'have his way with her' whether or not she's in heat, and your kitty could end up getting quite beaten up if the bully persists. I took in Meg as a pregnant female that someone decided they didn't want once she got pregnant. She has since been spayed. She continues to exhibit very aggressive behavior to my two neutered males as I think she's had it with men! The gestation period is about 60 days. Meg wasn't 'obviously' pregnant until she was about 4-5 weeks along. Aside from the issue of too many unwanted cats, I'd worry about the bully beating up on her. Mary |
