All the luck in the world finding Sammy a home. I live much too
far away to consider her (Southampton, England) but if I did not
I assure you I'd have her....

This sounds like a cat that really deserves a nice warm loving home.

gailann... also mother to a wonderful orange tabby female.

I also hope you find a home. We had to steel the neighbors cat.
All his teeth grew in crooked and sideways from what the vet thought
looked like abuse. He was also a short haired orange tabby. These
were really weird people anyway. After we vaccinated, neutered,
fattened up and care for, they came over one day and demanded that
we give him back (we had done this in the very beginning when he
hung around looking lost, and they denied that it was theirs).
Needless to say, we told the woman to take a flying leep. She already
had a scraggly looking doberman that didn't look real healthy.

Unfortunately, we have just found another cat (long haired orange
tabby) who is homeless. We can't keep him and are trying to find
    a good home for him.

Best of luck, if I hear of more than one possibility, I will send
    them your way.

    Sarah

| | What a sad story. You deserve a medal for what you've done for
Sammy. Good luck in finding her a home. If I didn't have 5 already,
I would take her in a heartbeat.

If I were you, I would march right on over to your neighbor and
inform her that if their new kitten undergoes the same abuse and torture
they gave Sammy that you will report her at once to the MSPCA.
This "person" does not deserve another animal.

    Roberta,

YOU ARE 100% RIGHT!!!!! No animal deserves that kind of abuse!!

I wish I could say yes but I am over my max already. Good luck
    in finding her a home.

It's a shame that there now is another kitten that is going to
have to go through the same fate.

| | Jana,
You are wonderful to do so much for Sammy! If you can't find
her a home try Kitty Angels in Tyngsboro. If you call me at
297-2313 tomorrow I'll look up the number for you. I have it
in my Animals file at work. Kitty Angels is a no-kill shelter
and if they take her you won't have to worry about her being
    put to sleep.

| | Hi Jana--

There's also a Pat Brodie who runs "Purr-fect Cat-tel" in Litchfield,
Mass. Her number is in this notesfile somewhere--does anyone remember
    where?

Best of luck, and I'm saying big prayers for Sammy!

    to animals is beautiful.

Good luck finding Sammy a good home and a hug to you for
    what you've done for Sam.

If I hear of anyone looking I will recommend Sammy to them.

    in Fitchburg, not Litchfield.

I don't have the phone number, but if you contact the dog
officer in Fitchburg she will know how to contact Pat Brodie.
I believe the shelter is located on the dog officer's land.

| | Responding to all who reply my note:
Thanks for taking a time to read my note. It's very nice to know how many
people really care about animals and see not only animals but even friends
that never trick you. That's truth that the care and the love that you
give your pet are return many times.
However, there are still people around thinking that the animals are
creatures with no feeling or an emotion. I'm afraid I've mostly come
across people like that lately. As a result there were 8 cats (6 stray and
2 my own) waiting for food and my attention last winter.
As to a question about shelters. Thanks for informations. It's good to
know no-kill shelters. One is also in Salem, MA. I've also learned about
Pat Brodie and her shelter. I've talked to her a last summer when I've
looked for home for a very old stray cat. Her shelter has been
overcrowded. I bet it still has. I replaced that cat in the shelter in
Sterling at last. At first I didn't believe that cat could has gotten the
home. She has been very old and without teeth. But a happy ending
happened. When I called there in 2 weeks ($35.00 fee was only for that
time) I've been told the cat had been replaced. Is it possible or they
told me that because of my sadness of putting her to death. Does anyone
know the shelter in Sterling and the people who run it? I've been really
impressed by that place. The shelter has been very clean and cats looked
very healthy there. But, I just couldn't believe that old cat had any
chance among so many young and cute kitties waited for a home. What is
yours opinion?
Anyway, though I have a good experience with the shelter (see above) I
don't wanted to put Sammy there. I know her too long. First I would try to
find the home for her by myself. Since it won't work I would try some the
no-kill shelter.
RE: .2 Sarah, good luck in finding the home for your homeless cat. I've
read your sad story about him.

| 2137.10 | More suggestions | FSHQA1::RWAXMAN | A Cat Makes a Purrfect Friend | Fri Jan 13 1989 12:22 | 18 |
| | Jana - I have also placed many cats at the Sterling Shelter since
they do not turn you away. As long you pay the $35, they will take
the cat. I have had good luck with them finding homes. Although
I'm not too crazy about the woman who runs the shelter (very gruff
and sometimes downright nasty), her accommodations are roomy and
    immaculate.

Have you tried running an ad in your local paper for a potential
home? The Want Advertiser is also a good mechanism. You could
also try the Digital Classified Ads notesfile (TECHNO::CLASSIFIED_ADS),
as I believe I recall someone in this file mentioning that they
found a home for a kitten via that route.

    Keep us posted!

| | If you run an ad in a newspaper, be sure to ask for a "donation"
for the cat, so it doesn't wind up with some one who will sell it
to a research lab. That is, make it unprofitable for them. (Our
local paper requires that people do this.)
 |
| 2137.12 |  | CRUISE::NDC |  | Fri Jan 13 1989 16:00 | 13 |
| | I'd try Digital Classified, but I wouldn't put an ad in a regular
paper. I'm just too scared that the person would only want the
cat for research. I've seen notes that suggested an amount to ask
for to be sure that it wouldn't be profitable for anyone who just
wants to sell the cat for research.
Maybe I"m just paranoid, or maybe I'm getting too much literature
from groups like PETA. I even order my laundry detergent, fabric
softener and dishwashing detergent from Georgia to be sure I'm not
buying stuff that's tested on animals! My shampoo isn't animal
tested either, nor is my perfume!
      Oops, sorry guys, wrong subject.

| | Thanks, Nancy. It's sound reasonable. I've also read the note
that suggested to ask for some amount. I just cannot understand
the people who can sell any animals for research. It's really
    cruel.

| | They're the same folks who don't think animals suffer or feel pain.
Some folks can be educated by providing a good example and talking
to them. Its especially effective with young children. Some just
never learn! Its small consolation tho that they're missing out
one some of the most wonderful experiences life has to offer.

| | Any luck on finding Sammy a home yet? I know everyone is saying
this but if I didn't have six already I would take her too.
I hated reading that the ex-owners got another cat (poor thing),
please if you do see anything happen to that other cat call the
m.s.p.c.a. and put in a complaint. (probably should do it any way
after the way they treated Sammy). Please keep us posted on her.

P.S. God bless you for your caring.

| | A searching for a good home for Sammy continues. Many people have
been involved in that - as yet no success.
Sammy still lives with us and looks for a permanent home. She's
doing very well. She is happy, frisky and skittish. She's not
skinny any more. Poor kitty may think she's already found her home.
