| Elmo is an indoor/outdoor cat, yet always comes in to relieve himself.
Kind of puzzled me, especially since Portia and Oscar ask to go
outside when they need to relieve themselves.
I got Elmo when he was about 5 months old, and he was already litter
trained, so I don't know about his training. All I can do is guess
that whomever litter trained Elmo really instilled in his memory
that you use the litterbox and only the litter box.
He doesn't use the carpet, so I don't really care where he goes.

| Nippa would rather use the great outdoors instead of her box, however,
I have noticed when the ground is too wet, hard(ie. frozen), or
when strange cats have been hanging around, she comes back in as
fast as she went out, to get to her box. Mind you she'll wait the
whole night, with her box readily accessable, to get out first thing
in the morning. Why she can't use it in the first [place....I just
don't know....
She has had several bad experiences "going outside" with other cats.
When she was new to the area, when she went out, they would attack
her in the middle, and of course they would roll around in it and
she would come home to mommy, and have to get a bath(and she HATES
baths).
It may be that there are other cats around and yours is just not
used to the surroundings to be comfortable going 'outside'. I keep
a box in the house, just for these occasions.

| Simple, you taught her to use it and she is!!!
Aja the pinhead does the same thing if we go out to rake or work
in the yard. (She's such a help...) She'll scream to go in, use
the box and want to go right back out. I think she likes the
privacy ("What do you mean? Right here in the front yard? Where
people can see?? Are you nuts? AND THERE'S NO MAGAZINES!!")

Patrick is a indoor/outdoor cat and he too prefers to use the
box indoors. Before I moved (this past July) he did go outside
and I didn't have to have a box for him inside unless I was going
to be away for a length of time. Since I've moved he uses the box
all the time. In fact he may be out all day and then when I let
him in he runs for the litter box. I don't understand it.
I am hoping when the warmer weather comes I can get him to go outside.
I guess its just the personal preference of the cat.

| Thank your lucky stars. Just think of all the notes from people
whose cats go on the rug, etc.
